I have a Maytag Gas - Double Oven Range - Precision Touch 850 Series Range - Model # MGR6875ADB I posted a question on December 30 in the evening and I haven't seen an answer yet but when I go back I can't find my question listed on this site. I'd rather not have to type it again.

I'd like to try ordering just one part to save money. Which one would you recommend trying first? What do you think of that idea?

  • Sally Jo Pyle Jan 02, 2011

nothing happens but an immediate beep when i do the cancel and keep warm buttons simultaneously.

i wonder if this is an indicator that it is indeed just the keypad that is the problem...please advise...

Sears was willing to sell the components separately.

  • Sally Jo Pyle Jan 02, 2011

so can i leave this conversation open until after we've received and installed the new pad?

sure is nice to have you out there helping us!

  • Sally Jo Pyle Jan 11, 2011

Actually I asked that this stay open until after installation - why did you close it?

  • Sally Jo Pyle Jan 11, 2011

oh - sorry. sears sent the wrong part so we won't have it for about 5 more business days.

Yes you can keep updated. After you replace the part. And let us know about the results. " the touch panel has completely gone unresponsive" as per this it indicates faulty touch key pad control panel board. This board has to be checked and replaced.--------Helpmech.

Hi.

Here your old request.

I think that the answer has ended under the long cue of post Christmas help requests sent to Fixya. Apologies.

About the problem. First trip the circuit breaker or disconnect oven power cord for two minutes. This will reset the appliance.

If that does not work, then the control module is probably faulty.

The control module and switch board it is sold in one unique assembly. The part minimum price I found is $268. Here the part: control/switch assemb (controlsw).

Installation is very simple. Here a testimonial: Installation Instructions

The kit is represented as part nr.2 in the diagram below. Click on the picture to enlarge:

I have a Maytag Gas - ginko_36.gif

Here all parts for this oven: MGR6875ADB

Note: if the repairman really offers to replace the control assembly for $300 ($30 labor inc. taxes!), then I would let him do the job. A technician can better test the part and will take the respnsibility of the replacement. I think that the repair price will be no less than $350, and that the quote of $300 was given by the tech without checking the updated part price.

Good luck with the repair and Happy New Year.

    Hi.

From your description it looks like the problem can be the button pad rather than the controm module. As said the two parts (control and switches) are sold in an unique assembly, then you replace them at the same time. Before replacing the part tell husband to check connectors to control module and switchpad. If he knows how to use a multimeter, the switchboard can also be tested looking for a jammed switch.

    IMPORTANT:

Before ordering parts also ensure that problem is not just a jammed electronic in need of reset. Here the procedure:

    Return To Factory DefaultSettings

The control can be reset to the factory default settings.
To return to the default settings:
    1. Press and hold upper oven Keep Warm and CANCEL pads
for three seconds. A single beep will sound and "dEF" (default) will appear in the display.
    2. Press the More+ pad to choose the factory settings. "cLr" (clear) will appear in the display.
    3. Wait four seconds and the factory settings will be accepted.
    4. If the More+ or Less- pad is not pressed within 30 seconds, the control will return to the existing settings.

Before performing any maintenance or disassembly disconnect power from appliance.

    All the best.

    Hi.

RE:nothing happens but an immediate beep when i do the cancel and keep warm buttons simultaneously.
i wonder if this is an indicator that it is indeed just the keypad that is the problem...please advise..

After the Beep you should get Clr on display, and then you should be able to use more pad to select the reset. Not getting Clr on display can be given by both faulty timer and faulty pad. Only way to test control pad is by using a multimeter set on Ohms on contacts to control module to check if switches are opening and closing

RE: Sears was willing to sell the components separately.

In that case the pad is also usually cheaper and you replace the switch pad first. The fact that the clock is working suggests also that the electronic control board is OK. This is however no definitive test.

    Hi.

It is not me, I am not even 100% sure it closed. Problems auto-close in seven days with no replies. I did not expect such a long time with no replies. You can still ask questions on this thread, but I can only post short comments. I do not know if the other expert can post full comments. I was doing a test and posted that sentence.

    Hi.

Ok, I understand. You can still post comments. It is not me deciding how the solution is closed. I was just testing because I could not find the button to post, and I found out that the solution was closed.

I will still answer if I get notification of further messages from this discussion.

If you have any query about Fixya system (eg. closing opening solutions etc.), you can write to premium.support@fixya.com they answer within next working day.

    Regards.

Maytag gas oven has an F1 code. Model # CGR3740ADW.

The F1 code on a Maytag electric stove means the electronic range control, clock or touch pad is defective. You or a technician can do a test to determine which item is broken, but you must replace the electronic clock range in models where the touch pad and range control are one part.

My oven when turned on goes to F1 and the heat is like broil...only the top burner comes on????

Hello,Please use the chart to determine which stove you have. You will have to look at the model number. The first 3 numbers will be the series on the chart. In most cases an F1 error would require replacement of the electronic control. This part is commonly refered to as an EOC or ERC. However this type of repair is usually reserved for repair specialists.

KENMORE Range/Stove/Oven Fault Codes – 362 Series (General Electric)
F1 = Stuck Touch Pad Key - Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE - 911 Series (General Electric/Roper)
F0-F1-FF = Failed transistor in Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE Range/Stove/Oven Fault Codes- 665 Series (Whirlpool)
F1-E0 EPROM Error - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E1 EPROM Error - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E2 U/L ERC Errors - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E3 Fuel Type Fail

Kill power 30 seconds-Cancel-Start/Enter-5 seconds-Should see “E” for electric-
“9” for gas-If code changes again-replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE - 790 Series Electronic Oven Control (Frigidaire)
F1 = Shorted Touch Pad = Electronic Range Control (EOC) Internal check sum error.
Runaway Temp = Replace Electronic Oven Control (EOC).

Kill power 30 seconds - if error returns - replace Electronic Oven Control (EOC).

Thanks

I have an in the maytag gas oven that keeps beep and show f-1 when its shut off

This simple test will help determine whether the ERC (Electronic Range/oven Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when this error code is present.

1. Disconnect power to the range/oven (unplug the range/oven power cord or turn the power off to the range/oven at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range/oven has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing.
2. Gain access inside the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC/EOC.
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was.
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).
7. If the code comes back and the beeping as well, replace the ERC(control board). If it does not, replace the touch pad.
