Question about GE JKP27 Electric Double Oven

1 Answer

Hi. I have a GE Profile JKP27W double oven. After running the self cleaning cycle, the top oven no longer works. The display will read 100 degrees for a minute and then shut off. I've cut the breaker to the unit and have moved the bakeing element from the bottom unit to the top, but the problem persists.... Any suggestions?

    Hi Daniel -
Thanks for the advice... I'll test the resistance on the sensor tonight.

    Hi Daniel,
I verified that the temp sensor is reading correctly. You indicated that I should test the door switch as well... I'm assuming that this is working properly as the oven light is switched on/off based on the door being open or closed. Let me know if I'm over simplifying...

Is there anything else I should check before replacing the control assembly?

    Thanks,
    Travis

I did some additional digging - I think you were referring to the latch sensor. I dug up the technical data sheet (was conveniently inside the oven cover panel). I verifie that the latch is reading as open currently (0 Ohms). I havent'e figured out how to simulate the oven latch relay being closed as its an electronic switch....

Guessing this is not likely the culprit... will look into replacing the control as you've suggested.

    Thanks for your guidance!

Hi

The issue can either be a bad electronic control/clock assembly or the oven temperature sensor (probe) has gone bad. To solve this issue start by checking the oven temp. sensor for 1100 ohms, if the rating is more then that then check the control and door switch and replace the part that is bad. Hope this helps...

Great...if you are testing it with a multimeter then check the control before replacing it as the latch seems to be open then it should also be replaced.

Bottom oven doesn't heat after running self-clean cycle

Usually, when an oven won't heat, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.
