What kind of an answer is that? I don't accept it. I have windows 7. All I want you to do is give me step by step procedure from inserting the disk in the old computer and downloading the files. Then how to pick out the ones to add to the new computer.

Windows 7 is on both old and new. I am not sure which files to transfer at this time. I have Carbonite, and uniblue and other programs that I will want to transfer. Some photos and at least the stared e-mails. Word, excel worksheets etc.

Hello,

the only things you can download from your old computer is pictures, videos, music, documents (Microsoft word, excel, etc) and that would be all.

Note that there is nothing you can copy from program files or any other thing from your computer/ Drive C:, apart from the above mention.

Insert your flash drive into your computer, right click on the pictures, music etc that you want to copy, scroll to "send to", you will see your flash drive amongst the list on send to and it will be copied into your flash drive.

Good luck.

Well if you don't have much data on the old pc, use the inbuilt backup utility or files and documents transfer wizard..that is if you are running a windows OS.

Whats the best way to transfer my infomation and programs to a newer computer

For content, if you don't want to transfer it all to a flash drive and then transfer it to the new machine, register for an account at any (or all, your choice) of the following sites:
Dropbox (2GB free)
https://drive.google.com/ (15GB free)
Welcome to OneDrive (15-23GB free)
Once the programs of your choice are downloaded and installed, use them to back up your personal files to the internet. Then, on the new computer, install the programs and allow them to sync. This will download them from the internet. Move the files out of the folders to free up space, wait for the removal to sync to the old computer, and go back to the old computer to move more in to be moved over. Repeat this as much as needed to have all of your files moved over.
For programs, transfer any installation files you still have (the program you download and then click to install) through the cloud storage programs from above that you choose, then use these .exe files to install to the new laptop. If you don't have the .exe files lying around, then you can either hunt them down individually on the new computer (in which case, make a list from your old computer) or use a service like
Ninite Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once (it's free, by the way) to mass download/install most common programs so that you don't have to go hunting for them.
For programs that were installed via disc, you're probably just going to have to install those on the new machine the old fashioned way. You cannot just copy/paste program folders (though it's tempting) because installing programs writes values to your computer's registry, which cannot be transferred and certainly don't tag along with the program files installed on the computer. These registry values are what tell the computer how to handle that installation, so while some programs MIGHT work, most will not work well or at all without.
Hope this helped!

How to download my file from my old computer

The simplest way to transfer files from your old to your new computer is by using USB flash drives. Just save your files from the old computer onto the flash drive then plug this USB drive in to the new computer and save the files there. If you have large files, you can also use an external hard drive to copy and transfer files.

I have a SanDisk Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive. I need to transfer my data from my old windows98 computer to a new Windows7 computer. However, My Windows98 computer does not recognize my SanDisk Cruzer USB...

Take a router (wired or wireless), and use Ethernet cables to connect the two computers to the router.
Configure the old computer into the same "workgroup" as the new computer (and restart it).
Right-mouse-click on the folder containing the files to be transferred.
Click to enable "sharing" of that folder.
On the new computer, browse the "Network Neighbourhood".
It may take a few minutes for the new computer to "find" the old computer (working through the router).
Access the folder that you "shared".
Copy the files, over your private network, to the new computer.

Can't transfer my email files from old computer to new computer

Good Day!

To transfer files from an old computer you can use USB or flash drives, copy the files from your Old Computer to Flash drive, after copying---attach the flash drive to your new computer then copy the files and save it. This is the easiest way to transfer files.

Other way of transferring;

-You can also transfer files by Burning your files into a CD/DVD and copy it to your new computer.
-Get your hard disk from the old computer and attached it to your new computer
-Or connect/network your two computers.

I recommend USB or Flash drives, the simplest and easy way.

Hope I was able to help.

I want to transfer files from an old desktop running Windows 98SE to a new laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic. I have bought a Maxell 2Gb memory stick: gone to the Maxell eu site and downloaded - as...

It should be unzipped and path to the unzipped folder provided while installing new hardware, when Windows (after plugging in the stick) finds a new plug&play device and asks for the location of drivers.

Also, go to your newer computer and check the USB stick's drive properties - it should be formatted using the FAT or FAT32 file system. If it's formatted using NTFS, Windows 98SE will not see it.

Good luck!
