If your MCM298 CD player is not playing and keeps saying "changing," there could be several possible causes:
Dirty or damaged CD: If the CD is dirty or scratched, the CD player may not be able to read it. Try cleaning the CD or using a different CD to see if the issue is resolved.
Laser lens issue: If the laser lens in the CD player is dirty or misaligned, it may not be able to read the CD. Try cleaning the laser lens with a CD lens cleaning kit.
Mechanical issue: There may be a mechanical issue with the CD player, such as a worn-out motor or a broken belt, that is preventing the CD from spinning properly. In this case, you may need to have the CD player serviced or replaced.
Firmware issue: It is also possible that there is a firmware issue with the CD player. You can try updating the firmware to see if this resolves the issue.
If none of these solutions work, you may need to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair service for further assistance.
And this is on every disk? Have you tried cleaning the lens?
Is it a drawer-type player? If so, let the drawer slide out and use an eyeglass cleaner on the tiny lens on the bottom of the drawer.
I had luck by cleaning some of the CDs that wouldn't be read by cleaning the CD with a little dish soap and water, drying is softly.
how long have you been using this player? The problem should be from the lens (laser).
The lens is weak and that's why it cannot read/load Cd's. The weak lens is also what's making it say no disc.
Get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, but if the lens still does the same thing even after using the lens cleaner, then it means you would have to change the whole lens completely to a brand new one.
By so doing your player would play all Cd's with no problem at all.
hello there,
the problem simply is that the lens is old and weak, cleaning it would not solve it but replacing it would be very ok.
to replace it, you look for a compatible replacement lens, then unscrew the dvd player, you would screw out the cd clipper that is above the lens, then you carefully disconnect the lens and replace it, try a dvd before screwing back to see it is working before you screw the case back on it.
I would say get a cleaning CD with the bristles on the Cd to clean the lens of the Wii. When you get it all it does is spin in the CD tray and clean the lens inside the CD tray. That should fix your problem the lens is probably dirty. If it doesn't leave a comment and ill try to help again.
try a few things first, the issue is that the disk decoder cannot get the information of the cd lan surface this is due to either a bad laser unit, or a very direct lens. cleaning is simple but if the disk cleaner didn't work you'll have to open the unit and wipe down the lens with alchohal esd safe, get at electronics store. sometimes their are stickt subtsances that get on cd discks and are transfered to the lens when it is reading cause the close proximity to the surface at high rpm's good luck.
Either the optics have failed or the lens is dirty. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Basically the unit can not read the disk and is requesting that you insert one. If the cleaning fails to resolve the problem, you will need to have the optics replaced.

Buy A CD Lens Cleaner and put it in to the CD Player and keep retrying until the drive plays it and then follow the instructions for the CD Lens Cleaner after its finished try playing a CD if it still wont play try another disc and if it does not play that try reset the player by unplugging it for five seconds if it still wont play the CD drive has failed in the drive and you need a new stereo. Stereos dont last forever so dont be surprised if you need to buy a new one
You could try a lens cleaning CD. It is a CD with tiny little brushes on the bottom of it.
You listen to a guy say bla...bla...bla...We are now cleaning your player. In 45 seconds it's done.
I bought mine at mendard's for less than $20 part of a 2 piece kit which had a lens cleaning CD and a CD scratch cleaner.
