The error is caused by a bug in your system i reccomend backing up your computer and running the repair cd that comes with your computer or using the built in system repair that should fix your problem

Code error 80072EFE

I understand you receive an error message 0x80072EFE when trying to installing update from the Windows Update website. This kind of issue may be caused by hardware/software firewalls or proxy server or Windows category files are corrupted. Let’s try the following steps to resolve this issue.

Step 1: Check background programs.
=======================
Disable firewalls or other Internet browser programs that can affect the Internet connection. The following programs can affect the connection to the Windows Update site and I suggest you remove or disable them:

McAfee firewall
Norton Internet Security
Zone Alarm Firewall
Panda firewall

Step 2: Delete the CatRoot2 folder
=======================
A: Stop Cryptographic Services:

1. Click Start, click Run, type in "SERVICES.MSC" and press Enter.
2. Double click Cryptographic Services, and then click Stop (if it has been started).

B: After stopping Cryptographic Service, please delete the "Catroot2" folder:

1. Locate the "C:\Windows\System32\" folder.
2. Delete the Catroot2 subfolder in System32.

Note: I am assuming your Windows Vista is installed in C:\Windows.

C: Re-start Cryptographic Services:

1. Click Start, click Run, type in "SERVICES.MSC" and press Enter.
2. Double click Cryptographic Services, and then click Start.

After performing the above steps, please visit the Windows Update website and check the available update.

Hope this helps.

How to fix an error 80072efe? It is an update problem when i try to update my laptop i keep getting this error.

There is a very good chance that you are seeing the effects of a hijackware infection!
Microsoft PCSafety provides home users (only) with no-charge support in dealing with malware infections such as viruses, spyware (including unwanted software), and adware.
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=7552&st=1
Also available via the Consumer Security Support home page: https://consumersecuritysupport.microsoft.com/
Otherwise...
1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.
2a. WinXP => Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

Error code 0oxooooc1f5 for gateway laptop

Sounds like a Windows update has caused this, you could try and get to windows updates by entering control panel / add / remove program and ensure the box at top is ticked to show all windows updates. Try "removing" the last update / reboot and see if that fixes it, if not repeat for the next, last updtae etc.

Failing that you can reload Vista in a way that will save your files but will NOT run programs until you actually put them back in such as Microsoft Office, Skype etc. Avoid a format as this will remove all data off the disk.
