My belling microwave oven will not heat up even though it still powers up. I bought it 3 years ago and is in perfect condition otherwise. A week before it stopped functioning, I accidentally left it on for...

Leaving the unit on with nothing inside probably was the cause of the current failure. What happens is RF reverse flows into the magetron and causes the power diode on the capacitor to fail or the capacitor itself fails. This is not a difficult or expensive repair. IF by chance you attempt self repair make sure the unit is unplugged and that you ground the capacitor 3 times before prceeding with any testing.

You disconnect one end of the diode and read across the terminals. One direction it will read like a wire and the other it will read open. (Good) If it reads continuity in both directions it has failed. If it reads open in both directions it has failed.

Checking the capacitor you simply probe across the terminals with a meter watching for a jump on the meater EACH time the tests leads are REVERSED. No Jump leads reversed = bad capacitor.

I tried looking up parts for Belling in UK but was unsuccessful. You can get a replacement diode or capacitor from any appliance parts source. They are NOT brand specific. Just take your old part with you if you find one of them defective.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Belling Microwave Problem

Apparently this one has a mechanical timer. That lack of electronic controls does lessen the complexity. I don't know about the specific regulations concerning British / EU microwaves, but I'm sure there's a fuse inside. In most cases, just replacing a blown fuse will not be the cure, unless one finds the reason it blew. What made it fail (if it did) is the real question. Loose fuse holder allowed excess heat? Shorted component or wiring? Or, is there a failure in the mechanical timer that's causing an open circuit connection? That can certainly happen. Also, a door switch may have failed. This is most commonly caused by opening the door while it's cooking, instead of turning the oven off first. I would suggest you contact Belling service:§ion=ContactBelling Good luck.
