Question about Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7815 Notebook

1 Answer

I had to open the L355d-s7815 Toshiba lap top to replace a broken power connector. The power problem is fixed, however, the touch pad and mouse buttons no longer function and are not recognized by the device manager. I opened up the lap top again and there is an unconnected paper tape strip that is not connected on one end. It is tinned with no connector and I can't see anyplace it could have come from. I haven't tried reinstalling driver software because I am not sure this isn't a hardware problem. Any idea where the strip goes given it is tinned but not connectorized? Any other suggestions? Oh by the way a USB mouse works fine and all other applications and functionality for Windows 7 work properly.

That Floppy Strip connects the touch pad to the motherboard.
Remove the top assembly againg and look specifically at the base of the touch pad, there is a connector that takes the cable. The other end connctes to the motherboard.
If you put it in the wrong way up, it will not damage, just won't work.
Have fun!!

Geek Squad at Best Buy can do the Replacement for a very reasonable Price but if you are not interested in spending the replacement price you can buy a USB wirless mouse for about $15 at almost any retail outlet that sells PC accessories and can make using a laptop a lot easier especially if you are like me and do not like using those little touch mouse pads.

Thumbs up if helpful! Feedback is appreciated!! Good Luck!!!

Mouse quit working on my Lap Top it is a Aspire

First of all check whether the touch pad is lock (Fn+F7(?)). If you use an external mouse/ usb mouse, check usb cable connection, as long as you didn't drop it on the floor it should be ok. If the built in touch pad doesn't work, could be caused by ribbon cable connectivity that has dirt or moist. To fix it need to open the upper case

You may want to open the laptop and check for damage to the touch pad including connection to the mother board. If you can not see any visible damage to pad or connection replace with another pad. Good Luck

Flip the lid open and flip the laptop (opened) and set it on a towel or something. It might take a week or a bit more to dry out. But you might be ok once it does dry out.

Although the best thing to do is to take it apart. And use a safe cleaner for circuit boards like alcohol (not wood alcohol).

Since you supplied power while it was wet. You could have have done permanent damage to the intergrated circuits. But let's hope not.
