I can't get the belt on correctly.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I’m not sure what your brand name and the model # of your particular vacuum cleaner and it is hard to know what to tell you without knowing more information. Please reply again and add the brand name and model # and then we can tell you the how to install your belt on your vacuum. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Thanks, Don the Vac Man

Why is the new belt on my dirt devil featherlite repeatedly slipping off? Everything else on it works fine and the b elt is the correct size.

Hello! There is no other part that goes on the motor shaft after the belt is put on. The tension of the belt keeps the belt from slipping off. If you have a brand new belt that keeps slipping off you may not have the correct belt for the vacuum. Be sure you replace with a genuine Dirt Devil belt and the specified belt style for your particular unit. Hope this helps! I have a hoover windtunnel turbo power 8000 self propelled model u6660-900. I bought a agitator belt for it that says it's the correct one ( belt #38528-034) according to several websites. But for some...

The belt is correct. You idler pulley is most likely hung up. Look half way between the brushroll and the drive pulley ( that's what the belt wraps around ) there is an idler pulley that puts pressure on the backside of the belt. They are prone to hanging up. A qualified vacuum repair shop can take care of this for you if you can't figure it out.

Why do the belts keep breaking

Hi there,

Well the problem happens due to the belt If the belt not installed correctly, the rubber belt will grate against one of the components in the roller brush housing. The friction of the belt against the housing produces a pungent burning odor. To correct this you need a right belt, each vacuum cleaner manufacturer produces specific belts for specific machines. An incompatible belt installed on the vacuum cleaner will cause the belt to break or burn.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Belt is still attached, but brush will not turn.

Hi,

If the motor runs but the brushes aren't turning, there are several possible reasons:

1. There is something trapped in or around the brush bar. Lie the vacuum on one side and make sure you can turn the brushes by hand. They should give some resistance when turning by hand, but the should turn.
2. The belt is worn/stretched and is slipping. This is often accompanied by the smell of burning rubber.
3. The belt is broken. It may still look attached to attached to the brushbar but it could be broken inside.
4. The brushbar isn't inserted correctly.

REMEDY: Please follow these simple instructions to determine the cause of the fault.

Disconnect the power and allow to cool for at least an hour if you have been using it

1. Sit on a chair, turn the vacuum upside down and hold it between your knees:

belectric_43.jpg

2. Undo the 3 fasteners at the positions shown in the picture below on the underside of the dyson (use a coin). Pivot the back edge of the sole plate upwards and lift off the sole plate which covers the brush bar:

belectric_44.jpgbelectric_45.jpg

3. Check for any debris around the brushes that may be stopping it from turning

4. Check that the brushbar is correctly inserted:

belectric_49.jpg

5. Check that the belt is intact and tight and correctly looped over the motor spindle:

belectric_47.jpg

If the belt is intact and tight, the brushbar turns freely and is correctly inserted and the motor runs, then your belt is probably worn/stretched and needs replacing.

All of the other possible faults can be fixed once the sole plate is removed (Step 2). Remove any debris from the brushbar, make sure it is correctly inserted, and make sure the belt is correctly looped over both the motor spindle and brushbar.

If you need to replace the belt, please see my other post for replacing the belt on a DC07

If you have done all of the above and there is still no obvious reason why the brushbar isn't turning, please post back for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric.

Belt keeps slipping off need to check the correct belt number and what can i do

What does it slip off of, the brush or the motor? Are you sure that it is in correctly, as there are usually 2 ways of putting the belt on. If put on correctly, it should not contact any part of the vacuum except the motor shaft and the brush. Also check check there is not a buildup of hair, etc. where the belt goes around the brush. I would try turning the brush by hand and see if anything is interfering with the path of the belt. There is always a chance that some part of your vacuum has broken or malfunctioned and is touching the belt and making it come off. Also, make sure that the brush is correctly installed.

The tension on the belt should be pretty high so that it is hard to pull out of place. If not, you could have the wrong belt. I believe that this takes a type "U" belt if that is any help. Hope this helps and good luck!

The power drive belt of my hoover u3305-030 vacuum keeps falling off, what am I doing wrong?

Hello
One possible solution to your problem is you have the wrong size belt. Check your belt, it should have a letter on it, if it is old, it may be stretched out. Check in your owner's manual, near the belt area, or on the inside of any cover for the correct belt size(which is a letter). Be sure to check that you have the correct size and if not or if it is old, go to your local home depot($1.89+tax for Hoover Model belts) or any other store you know provides vaccuum belts, and purchase a replacement belt.

Hoover Wind Tunnel V-Belt no longer turns brush

that is the correct belt what you dont see is a tension pulley that when the handle is released pushes on top of that belt giving it the tension it needs. try replacing the other belt, even if it isnt broken it could easily be stretched out ( all belts of that type should be replaced every year - even if you didnt use the machine at all ). if that doesnt work that tension pulley could be damaged you would need to take the bottom of the machine apart to fix that.
