Have a GE WSXH208HWW Spacesaver, Washing Basket is wobbling. What is the problem and can I fix it myself?

2 possible problems. On the outside of the tub front and on the top back are cement counter weights that are bolted to the tub. If they are coming loose, they would cause the tub to go off balance and wobble. If just the stainless inner tub is the one that wobbles, that suggests a bad rear drum bearing. The counter weight problem easy to fix once you get the top and back off and just need re-tightened. The back drum bearing is something even trained techs want to avoid. It requires removing the complete tub/drum assembly from the washer----then splitting the outer tub in half to replace the inner drum and bearing assembly. Cost for parts will be excessive and not worth the repair.

My kenmore 87872800 dryer wont spin. everything else is working but drum wont spin.

Left the top of the dryer top, check to see if the belt isn't broke or loose, if that is in tact try turning the drum by hand to see if it turns easily. if not, the bearing in the back of the drum needs replaced. this is easy to replace, remove the drum by removing the dryer top and then remove the belt, and the drum slides up out of the machine. replace the bearing then reassemble dryer.

How do you take out the rear drums out of a 2002 ford focus zx3 i took out the four nuts in the middle of drum and still didnt come out

You may have to loosen the brake shoes. And also "bang" on the drum with a small sledge hammer. Generally the will be rusted on and may require a good amount of force.

Dryer is squeaking while in operation

Rear drum bearing may need lubrication or replacement. This bearing is located on the back of the drum and requires taking the washer housing apart to get to it. They sell a high temperature lubricant if that is all that is needed, but a small bit of automotive grease or bearing oil will work well. You may have to buy bearing replacement parts ie a drum rear bearing and post kit or a bearing replacement kit. You will need better than average skills to do this yourself. As soon as you take off the front panel the drum will have no support and will drop forward. Try not to let the drum belt to become to loose or the belt retention wheel may become disengaged and the belt will fall off. Make sure you unplug the dryer before taking ANYTHING apart.

Washing machine was making a loud banging/tapping niose when the drum was spinning. It doesn't sound too good when turned manually. Is it the bearings and are they easy to fix?

banging may happen due to low load also, as cloths form a ball shape at one place.
otherwise it might be bearing or bearing housing. bearings are very difficult to replace as whole drum need to open. if bearing housing got loose in drum then drum needs replacement, also very costly.

My Hotpoint BWD129 washer/dryer has got noisier and noisier during the spin cycles. It is now so loud it is unbearable to be in the same room as it and it rattles anything off the worktop nearby. Any...

This is most likely the drum bearings failing.

Drum bearings normally last a long time (10 years or more isnt unusual), but quite often drum bearing failure is caused by a faulty drum shaft seal allowing a small amount of water through and in to the bearings. The bearings then start to rust and this accelertes how quickly they deteriorate.

Replacing a drum bearing requires well above average DIY skills, so unless you feel you can do it, can get hold of a tech manual, and can find a supplier for the bearings, it's time to get a quote from an engineer.

My Hotpoint WD860 makes a dreadful noise when it spins, but fine at all other times, any idea's?

Just put some grease at the bearings of the drum. This will correct the noise. However, if it persist, your bearing may need replacement.

Probably all parts inside drum is ok.Heating element is the only damageable item and a sensor.Changing bearings you must separate the drum, all screws in middle of drum must out and then bearing and zimmerring can be changed.Jan

Weheel bearings 1988 KE Laser

They are easy to replace but should be done at work shop unless you have the tools to remove and install the bearing outer cone,a press is not required They are easy to damage when refitting. If you wish to know more and attempt it yourself you will need a half inch socket set Metric and imperial,a punch, hammer, grease, pliers for the split pin, clean rags, screwdriver to loosen brake shoes off if brake drum doesnt come straight off and a bit of patience.Once youve done it to one side the other will be easier and quicker.Let me know and Ill walk you through it as you do it .

Dryer squeaks when I use it

Hi, I had a squeaky Zanussi TC482W. Had it apart (easy to do) by taking the back off. Cleaned out fluff from around the drum and greased the rear bearing. Reduced the amount of squeak but still there. Took it apart again and almost by accident discovered that the bearing that the shaft at the rear of the drum sits in is actually in two parts. The actual bearing is shaped like the olive you get in plumbing compression joints and should be free to swivvle in the housing to allow some flexibility in drum rotation. A squirt of WD40 and some gentle wiggling with a piece of dowel soon had it free and its now flexible enough to take up the slight movement of the drum about its axis . Problem solved.
