Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Our BEKO TZS490 has decided to defrost itself without our having done anything to it. Electricity supply is OK: the orange light is on, but neither the green nor red light is showing. Please could you advise: - How to get it to freeze; - What might have caused the problem?

Make sure there is no lint or dust in the fan motor located on the lower back of the fridge.

Have a BEKO TZS490 Freezer. It is tripping my House RCD . is there a fuse in it, (other than the plug)?

no fuses
the tripping of the rcd indicates a dead short or faulty insulation of the unit
check the power lead to the unit for broken wires
other than that it is possible that the compressor motor has burnt out
call a technician for an electrical check

Does the green light come on after freezer is turned back on?

if you turn the freezer off for some time then on again the red light has to come on as an indicator for high temperature it goes off by itself when the freezer attains the required temperature according to the thermostat settings ,that is the lower the settings the faster the red light goes off. the orange light indicates super cooling and the green light indicates power supply.if you turn the two lights off and the freezer still works without the green light on that means that the bulb for the green light is faulty and you don,t need to worry

A bit of a whacky suggestion, but you could get yourself a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply).

PC Stores sell them for home PC's, but you would need to check the output capacity of the UPS could handle the fridge. From what you say, you only need to protect from a "Blip" and if the power was to go out for a few minutes and then reset, the freezer would be ok and would reset itself without a problem. IF this is the case then a small UPS might be your answer because it would only have to provide support to the machine for a few moments - If it then failed it would be because the power was actually out for a little while and when it came back up the freezer would do what it should and recover.

When we switch the dishwasher on it trips the electricity. It's worked fine for 2 years but now won't work at all and just trips the electricity.

Your dishwasher has a serious electrical safety fault which is causing the protective breaker to trip (although it may have a simple and cheap cause). With all due respect, your question clearly demonstrates that you lack the knowledge and skills to carry out a diagnosis and a safe repair (especially vital for anything which uses water and electricity). Before doing anything else, fully disconnect your machine from the main electricity supply by either unplugging it or for a machine connected to a flex outlet by turning off the wall switch and then removing the fuse.

Sorry, but in this instance you only have two choices: get a qualified dishwasher repair engineer in or replace the machine. Anything else could be lethal.

Fridge freezer problem

Sounds like the defrost system of your freezer is not working. It could be either the defrost timer, defrost thermostat or the heater has a problem. The defrost timer turns off the compressor periodically to sent power to the defrost heater via the thermostat. The defrost heater then powers up and heats the evaporator coil to melt the accumulated ice buildup on the cold coils. Most likely issues are that the timer motor is not advancing the timer or the heater itself has burned out.

Fridge Freezer in Autodefrost mode

Power surge can cause problems such as you have. I am not familiar with your brand but it sounds like the defrost timing circuit is your problem. Defrosting the surface of the back wall is not the answer. The cooling coil in the freezer is behind the back wall normally and a surface defrost does not do the trick of defrosting the coil. Have an appliance service tech check it out for you.
