my tv gets zig zag lines on the screen - f89e701.jpg
OK, OK ...That was funny
What do you meant by zigzag line? Do they look like what we would call herring bone. lines going sideways? Please let me know. If this is the case, I have never been able to solve that problem. I am very close with the tech over there at Samsung. We spent hours on this problem. We changed Complete main board. We also changed Power supply. The problem maybe coming off the Yoke or a somewhat defective picture tube.

Please post reply if someone did correct such problem

Best regards

You have either bad convergence ICs or just bad grounds on the IC. I would go ahead and replace the ICs and check those small ohm resistors, as you have to pull the signal board out anyway. For futher instructions see the website www.TvRepairKits.com. They may have what you are looking for. Be sure you have the TV model number next to you. JVC AV-48WP30 convergence drifting after IC replacement

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

Good Day,
The TV has a convergence problem; the IC’s for that circuit will need to be replaced. The cost for this repair runs around $450.00 or more.

Replace the defective Convergence Output IC Part Number
23905094 (STK392-110) using the revised “T” version IC Part Number
23135090 (STK392-110T). When Convergence Output failure is
detected, it’s recommended that both IC’s be changed to the “T” type IC
version. Inspect the Convergence Output IC’s for the “T” type version as
shown in Figure 2. Replace the Convergence Output IC’s using the “T”
type version Part Number 23135090 (STK392-110T).

Thanks for choosing FixYA, Big Irish

I replaced the convergence board but still have the same problem.

The problem is not with the convergence board. Its the Convergence ICs which are located on the sub board. Use two stk392-040 ICs as your model probably has the 392-010 now. But you can get two new replacement ICs at the following link and they will provide free instalation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself. Heres the link you will need two STK392-040 Convergence ICs.

Distorted picture

when you say distorded, is it like a 3-d effect? or more of zig zag type lines in the picture. If there are color outlines like a 3-d effect, then you are having a convergence preakdown, and are going to need to have the convergence IC's replaced. if the problem is the piture is zagged edges and zig zag, lines or a smearing effect, most likly it is the PIP modle is going bad, and even if you dont use the PIP, the video still goes through that module. If it does not have a PIP feature, then there are bad capacitors in the sweep power supply and the problem will get progessivly worse till the set wont come on anymore. Hope this helps. Good Luck
