I would be surprised if it didn't support up to 620Gb and more.
No problem, the motherboard and bios will be happy with that and 160Gb drives are cheap at present.
Hope that helps.

If you mean what size hard drive, go to system settings then system information. There will be a line that reads NNN GB / NNN GB where NNN is a 2 or 3 digit number. The second number gives you the total available hard drive space. The first number is what you are using of that space.

In my case, the second number reads 232 GB when I actually have a 250 GB hard drive (some space is reserved for the system), so round your second number up to whichever is closest to either 12, 20, 40, 60, 80, 120, 160, 250, 320, 500 and that's your answer.

I think your answer is 120 GB based on your model number.

Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB won't work in my Dell GX270. Any suggestions.

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty ?

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause this problem

a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

make sure your computer ram modules are securely seated with no dust in sockets also Cmos battery has charge with no dust in the socket

It appears that my fan for my Inspiron laptop is not working. How can i test it??

It should start up when you start the machine. This is part of the power on self test, or POST, which is a function of all modern computers.

It may be clogged, at which case, it should be serviced.

Dropped my 60 GB WD passport

Hello

I am afraid you damaged the hard drive. I am sorry to inform you about that. If it is within an enclosure. Try and check this out. Open the enclosure see if you got the hard drive loose from where it should be plugged, and if you're lucky you should be back in action. Otherwise I am afraid you broke it.

Best Regards

Upgraded hard drive, from 80gb to 250gb. I have had to reload my os twice. it appears that the bios is not recognizing my hd. a friend said that the inspiron 6000 does not do well with a hd bigger then...

I dont think we can use a hard disk of 160gb in an inspiron 6000. and make sure you bought a ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive. For the Western digital try to reinstall XP and install the device drivers before installing application s/w.
