Question about IBM LCD Panel, 14.1-in. XGA TP R50/p, R51, R50e, R52 - Sub 92P6675 11P8352 (92P6745) CD-ROM Drive
Try an external monitor to verify if the laptop is working just fine.
If you get a clear picture on the external monitor, see if the laptop LCD is dim, or has no image at all.
If dim, you will need to replace the backlight or inverter.
If there is no image at all on the LCD, see if there's a small microswitch at the base of the LCD, this microswitch turns of the LCD assembly when the lid is closed. Usually these microswitches can easily get stuck due to dust and dew. You'll have to wigle it out with a toothpick or similar pointy object.
If there is no microswitch, perhaps it may be that the LCD cable is loose and is out of its socket, and you'll need to open up the laptop and re-seat a long (about an inch) rectangular-shaped connector leading from the motherboard into the LCD assembly.
