If this happens for the HDD and DVD together, you may be dealing with a motherboard issue. If you also experience some random freezeups of the keyboard and mouse, and notice that the DVD does slow playback (Try a DVD video to test), and the HDD responds slowly at random times, then it is definitely a motherboard problem. The only solution would be to get a new motherboard or repair the one you have. To do the repair you'll need to do a reflow of the FSB chip that controls the peripheral devides such as HDD, DVD, etc.

Sounds like an IDE controller problem. I have seen many of these problems being mentioned online so the best thing to try is either sodier the heck out the mobo or replace it.

Acre aspire 5100

sounds like a loose hard drive connection, or you need a BIOS update. You should check Acer's website for an updated BIOS. You should also remove the hard drive (usually a 2 minute job with a small screw driver) and re-seat the drive.

My Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop wont detect the hard drive

If it works on another computer then either the ide cable in the acer is bad/loose at either end or the ide controller on the motherboard is bad. I would try a known good ide cable first as if this is the problem it is fixable alot cheaper than a motherboard. Hope this helps.

Acer Aspire 5100 Freezes

I am not sure which you are talking about either. But I will venture to say that I had a similar problem once where setup would not complete on my system either. I initially thought that I had a bad or dirty disc but later after running a few tests, I found out that my HDD was full of bad sectors. Thus I ended up replacing the HDD and all is well. I would try running a stand alone formatting software or you could try doing a complete format vs. a quick format during Windows setup. If setup still won't complete after a complete format then run a surface scan or a HDD regenertion program to verify the integrity of the drive. This will tell you if you have a bad drive or not.

BIOS cannot detect DVD rom

That is due to faulty DVD Rom. You need to replace your optical drive.

Acer 5610z

i assume your laptop is Aspire 5610z.
try to check in device manager first.
is your camera is detected in device manager ? it should be under imaging device.
if it not detected, mean something wrong with your camera.
if it is detected, checked the manufacture.
if it is microsoft, it's mean wrong driver. it should be bison, suyin or logitect. in this case try to install the correct driver.
you can download the driver and application from www.acerpanam.com
