How do I use my x5495 to scan a resume and then to edit it with my Dell XP computer?

You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up!
Best of luck, William

I can't scan a document and convert to a PDF file. Do I need to install OCR software and if so how do I do it?

To scan documents for editing and converting it to a PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software. It is available in the installation disk that came with your Lexmark printer (not available for online download). Just insert the disk into your computer and execute the install application. If you don't have the disk, please contact Lexmark technical support for assistance. Thanks.

I can't scan on my lexmark printer model x5650. When I scan a document it gives me the message " Install the OCR from the OCR folder". I can't find the OCR folder in my computer. What should I do".

The Lexmark OCR scan software is available in the installation disk that came with the printer. You can explore the installation disk and look for the Abby setup application in the OCR folder (for Windows). For Mac OS, right-click on the Install icon and choose Show Package Contents. Open Contents folder > open Package folder and manually install the Abby Finereader application.
However, if you don't have the installation disk, contact Lexmark technical support. Thanks.

Says ocr application not installed and installed on cd

An "OCR" , or "Optical Character Recognition" program needs to be installed on a computer to which the printer is connected. These programs convert scanned text into editable documents. I'm confused about you meant about OCR being installled on a CD.

After I scan text, I cannot put it into a Word document, edit, or anything. I have an Epson 2400. thanks I do not have the scanner directions.

In order to scan to word so a document is editable you need to use Optical Character Recognition Software (OCR). You can download free ocr software from www.simpleocr.com Use that software and then either export once scanned to Word or Save as a Word document in the OCR application.

How do you take a scanned article and transfor it to adobe reader 9 to alter document? I need to change the format i guess so it would register the material.

If you are working with a scanned document (TIFF, GIFF, etc) you must use an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) application to translate the scanned text into editable text. An application such as Omnipage will do this.
If you want a less expensive/less feature rich application try some of the trial OCR applications on ZDNET downloads at

How do I install the OCR application?

I guess you are not selecting a printer while you giving print command.

Click on Print, A rectangle box opens with options, on top you will see name, see it shows your printer name " Lexmark X1270 and not microsoft office document writer.

If correct printer is selected then it wont save an image or word file, it will perfectly print your document.

Cheers

How can i use ocr on lexmard 5650

If it didn't come with any OCR software you can find some free OCR software by Googling free OCR. After you have the software installed, it's usually a case of browsing to the scanned image via the software and telling the application to convert the image into a Word document. Some applications have the ability convert to PDF as well. If you prefer a PDF document but your OCR application doesn't support that option, then download some free "print to PDF" software. Typically with this type of software you will not be able to edit a PDF like you will a Word document. Hope I was able to FixYa, please remember to rate my solution. Thanks.

Scan a Document and Need to edit in Word 2007

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. But either way, you first have to install the manufacturer's software. Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
