Does this happen with an external mouse too?
If no, then reinstall the touchpad drivers.
If yes, then chances are your laptop is suffering from a poor contact/cold solder on the FSB chip. If this is the case, the only solution is a new motherboard or a reflow of the FSB chip. If the FSB chip has a dry solder, joint then you should be experiencing some other problems too: slow DVD reading, keyboard freezes sometimes, problem with USB ports etc. Next time this happens, twist the laptop as you'd twist a book. This should add some tension between the motherboard and FSB and hopefully restore contact. Note that this is not a permanent solution, but a diagnostic step to see if it's really a FSB issue.

Can't shut off touch pad for typing, Dell N5050

Make sure the Alps Pointing Device Driver (for the touch pad) is loading at startup so you get the option to toggle this on/off with the Fn/F3 key combination.

Start->Search msconfig should get you the program you need to run to check- look under startup tab and ensure the Alps Pointing Device driver is checked.so it's loading at startup.

Hope this helps.

While touching directly the laptop pad is not working unless we use right or left key to execute it please advise

Right click on the touch pad icon on the desktop. Select Pointing Device Properties. Check that it is not just disabled. If OK go to Control Panel and Device Manager, check for yellow warning signs and if you have one, uninstall the driver that is not working, Windows will re install it when you re boot. If it still doesn't work then it may be faulty.
Replacement Touch Pads are available from ebay.

I want to deactivate my touch pad on my dell inspiron 1525 laptop. Please advise how

If you do not see a Touchpad icon in your systray(lower right), go to:

Start/Control Panel/System

On the left choose "Device Manager".

Select "Mice and other pointing devices" and highlight "Dell Touchpad"

Either right click and "Uninstall" or click the uninstall icon at the top.

Restart your machine and it will automatically update the driver from Dell which will put the Touchpad icon back in the system tray.

Click on this icon and go to "Device Select"

Check the "Disable Touchpad/Pointing stick when external USB mouse id present.

DELL 1501 TOUCH PAD BUTTONS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. HELP.

This could be a hardware or software (windows) problem.

If it is hardware it could be as simple as the connector ribbon inside is loose or that the touch-pad unit is failing. A replacement is $30-$80 plus labour.

I've seen a few of these where the problem is windows acting up. Since you have tried the drivers and they didn't fix it what you can try is go to control panel - system - hardware - device manager - mice and other pointing devices

Open that and select and then delete the pointing device or mouse shown. Then reboot. Windows is now forced to detect the touchpad hardware and reinstall the drivers. That usually does the trick unless it is hardware caused.

Now the tricky bit. Once you delete the mouse you will have to close and reboot using only your keyboard. You need windows to reboot normally, you can't just pull the power cord. To do this use ALT-F4. Hold down the ALT key and press the F4 that will close the windows until you get back to the windows desktop where it will close down windows. When you start the computer again your mouse will be detected and will work again. What we won't know is if that is enough to reset things and get your buttons working until you try this. You can try this a few times but generally if the drivers are right and you have done this then its time to replace the touch-pad.

Hp touch pad keeps clicking like crazy....

Hi,

Try the following steps...

1. First clean the touch pad with a dry cloth.

2. Disconnect the battery and the AC adapter and any other device that is connected to the NB and hold down the power button for 2 mins. This will drain the static.

3. Go to device manager and click on the + sign beside mice and other pointing devices, select synaptics / alps touch pad driver, right click on it and uninstall it. Now go to recovery manager > advance options > hardware driver installation > select the same driver and reinstall it.

This should fix it....

otherwise, go to hp.com/suppport and download the latest bios available.

you can also run a spyware scan if all the above steps do not work. go to www.filehippo.com and download antispyware program and run a scan.

Hope it helps..
Regards,
Anup

Touch pad driver.

Uninstall the driver from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the touch pad and reinstall the drive automatically. If this doesn't work, check the touch pad connection, they will sometimes work loose ar get a little dirt/corrosion build up. The connection is under the keyboard. At this point, if it's still not working, then it has failed and will need replaced.

I have toshiba notebook A200.I have been using a USB mouse, and I now can not get the touch pad to operate.Plerase advise me what I can do.I have tried FL F9 to no avail.

If you unplug the mouse and then start up the machine does the touchpad not work at that point?

Some systems have a settings in BIOS that prevent the touchpad from working if a mouse if connected.

Try unplugging, start up and if the touchpad doesn't work, shut down and go into the system settings and turn on the touchpad (if turned off).

Also, make sure the device manager doesn't show any Yellow Exclamation points, meaning a bad or missing driver. To get to Device Mananger, go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager (in Windows XP that is).
