SOURCE: jl audio 12w3v4....both smoked and fried on a 500/ jl amp

Unfortunately, it sounds like the voice coils burnt up. There are places that do repair, but for these particular subs, it would be more cost efficient to replace them. I also doubt they are salable, but ebay is a magical place.....

SOURCE: i have a little rip on the subs ring

The little rip on the foam surround can be repaired easily with some pure silcone from a harware store. Make sure it's pure silicone, because the silicone mixtures may deteriorate the foam prematurely. Also, all you're really doing is plugging the hole that the rip makes so that air doesn't leak out and further damage the surround and also affect your sub's performance. You'll need to apply a thin to moderate coat of silicone to the rip, and make sure that some gets into the rip. Do NOT use globs or big lumps. You should apply some silicone to your finger, and carefully apply it to the area. Try not to get too much on the inside/backside of the rip. If you'd rather just get a replacement sub, you should be able to find the raw driver on eBay or at a local MTX dealer.

Ok i have a jl500/1v2 amp with 2 w6v2 subs and i haveing a problem dont no if the amp is two much for the subs becouse i turn the amp to get more tump and the subs pop and the yellow light filkes so i turn...

its real simple. your under powered.

your W6s RMS at 500 watts EACH and your sending em 250RMS (half what they need)
The 'pop' your hearing is the failure to supply enough power to draw the cone back in time and collides with the next wave of sound.

prove it?
drive a single W6 with your 500/1 bridged.
i'll bet your pop goes away.

long term, get another 500/1 or jump up to a 1000/1v2.

I also HIGHLY recommend JL's in-line audio cleaner. If i recall it was like 60 bucks but waaaay worth it. makes sure that theres no distortion in the source input to your amp(s), which...keeps your subs from trying to reproduce transients and delivers only clear signal to your subs void of all clipping signals. Its an active electronic compoent.

PS: if you are pushing 12W6's, i had the same setup once...I had W3s connected to my 500/1 and upgraded to the W6s...had the same issue your describing, and then got the 1000/1. happy ending.

It is rip in to little piecies

It may not be worth the expense, but if the cone or surround are torn, they can be replaced by a speaker repair shop. I just had a pair of JL 10W6's re-edged (the foam surround around the cone deteriorated after 11 years), and the repair cost $100 for the pair, including parts.

The foam surround on my subs are cracked and torn. I need them repaired. Would it be more ideal to buy new subs or get these w7's repaired?

wow i won't throw them away or anything like that. You can always go down to your local JL Audio dealer to see how much to refoam the subs. Lot cheaper then buy new ones..... That's the way i would go.. Hope this was helpfull

you may only be able to get but so much out of the subs. If you turn the bass down a little so the that you dont drive the subs so hard you may get a little more wattage out of them
