Question about Uniden Lands Phones

4 Answers

We have a set of 5 Uniden PowerMax 5.8 phones. The original set came with 3 phones, and we added two others. We have a lot of problems with bad quality on our phone calls. Sometimes we get a sound like hearing aid feedback. Sometimes we get sound drop outs. Sometimes we get a "trunk line" effect where only one person can talk at a time. Sometimes we get a digital phone effect where the sound sounds chopped into little pieces some of which never arrive, some of which arrive late. We have ADSL and all the phones (and the fax machine) are filtered. We have an alarm system which is not filtered. We have WIFI. Our phone company told us to put two filters on each phone, which we tried, with no success. We just tried our old 900 MHz phone which works fine. Please help!

These phones do not offer the option of switching channels.

  • tim-bond Jul 09, 2008

We've had the phones for about three years. We've had the problems for about a year. We added the extra two phones about a year ago, but we didn't notice a marked quality change immediately.

The base unit model number is TRU 8065-2.

What you are experiencing is interference from the channel that the wifi router is set on. Try setting your router's wifi channel to channel 3 to reduce interference from that. Next would be your alarm system. Is there any devices that have motion detection? That function can cause reall problems with wireless phones using the 5GHz band. Then there are other things in your home you wouldn't imagine that can cause interference on your 5GHz phones by also the wireless router connection. These include Microwave ovens of all things which uses 5GHz. So, if one of your cordless phones or more particularly the base unit is in or near the kitchen you must consider moving it to another location that is away from your router, your TV and the kitchen.

There are techs who can come into your home and do a survey of what is interfering and on what channel of even the cross-overs onto more than one channel. These techs mostly use a tool from Fluke Networks.

You can contact Fluke here:
U.S. and Canada: 1-800-283-5853

And ask them for a local tech who has their Analyse Air tool who can come into your home and give you a clear analysis on what is interfering with what and what to do about it.

But start with the basics I outlined first, where is the base unit? and consider moving it. Keep the handsets out of problem areas, near wifi links, the transceivers on PC, Laptops and not near your router and lastly your cell phones which are always on unless you pull the battery.

The real answer is to use 900MHz phones and perhaps give a 2.5GHz phone a try if you can borrow one, but it is also susceptible to this interference as well.

Worldvet

Hello, Terrie.

Sorry for the delay in responding - time zone difference.

First, let's see if we can fix your handset (from Uniden):

1. Remove the battery cover and leave it off for ventilation.

2. Remove the battery pack by disconnecting.

3. Leave the battery cover off and the battery pack disconnected for at least 3 days.

4. Once completely dry, reconnect the battery pack and the battery cover.

5. Recharge the handsset's battery pack for 20 hours in the base unit before using the phone. IMPORTANT: You must unplug the telephone line while recharging the battery pack
to avoid charge interruption.

I believe there is a way to export your phone book to another handset, but not without reviving your original phone. Unlike a cell phone, there is no memory card to remove and transfer.

Let me know what happens.

Hope this helps.

Try putting the handset in the main unit and see if it will fully charge. It may very well be a problem with the individual charger, not the handset batteries.

Adding a new handset

You need to register the new handset with the base.
In Global settings De-register the new handset then place it on the main base unit connected. It should then register.
