The external drive needs to be initialized from your PC. To do this,
right click your My Computer and choose Manage. At the left panel click
on the Disk Management. The list of available drives will show on the
Right click on the drive and select create partition (primary partition). After you've selected your partition , now you need to format the hard drive. Choose quick format. Right click again on the partition you've just created, now select "Format" and select NTFS. Click ok and it will guide you until it is finished.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Did you add another drive to that computer? it sounds like the hard drive has taken on a different drive letter and you have a program that has the drive letter specified. check to make sure the drives letter didnt change.

Ok. Well this is easy! your hard drive is formatted in NTFS, ps3 wont recognize that. it needs to be fat32 find an XP machine not a vista machine.
download Swiss Army Knife and format the drive in fat32. you will loose ALL information in your external. you will need to back up anything you want to save and put it back after the format.

Does the software perhaps have a hidden attribute? Does anything happen when you depress the one click button on the top of the drive?

go to control panel with hard drive connected. Find device manager. Click on device manager after it opens find disk drives .Click on disk drives is your hard drive there. yes open it up and uninstall driver. then restart your computer. If its not there and your light is blinking you might need a y cable. your hard drive needs at least 650ma and its probably getting about 500 if this doensnt work call 646 537 3411 m-f 8-9 est
