Try plugging the desktop into another router port. Recycle the router. Set both your desktop and laptop to obtain IP address automatically. Make sure router is dynamically assigning IP addresses. Make sure your Domain and Workgroup settings are the same on both machines. Those are just a few ideas. :) Hope it helps.

Hi, I f you can see the router SSID to your Laptop You don't need to buy wireless adapter for your laptop. You have to know what is a wep key or passphrase to enter to your laptop in order to connect. Get back to us if your need to configure your router. make sure to give us the model of the router so we can help better.

I CAN'T HOOK UP TO WI-FI EVEN WHEN IT SHOWS SEVERAL ITEMS. THEY ALL ASK FOR A PASSCODE WHICH I DON'T KNOW

Sounds like your trying to connect to a secured network, without the passcode your not going to connect.

Is this your network or someone else's ? If it's your, you can reset your router. On the back ( depending on what router you have ) there will be a small reset, just use a pen, hold it in for 15 seconds or to the lights comeback on. By resetting your router you won't need a passcode to connect, though highly recommended to secure your network.

Hope this helps.

It's possible you are connecting to a neighbor's unsecured network by mistake. Have you verified that you are actually connecting to your own network?

Trying to connect router and laptop

ok does the router show green lights in power, internet and wireless. i'm assuming your using windows here, first of all make sure you have wireless turn on or activated in the laptop, then at the botton left of the screen in the taskbar you see one computer like icon, right click on that and view available networks.......find your network form the list and then click on connect.
if you have the router set up right and pluged into your modem it should work just fine if not let me know and i'll tell you how to set it up.
hope this helps.

SECURITY ISSUE ON LAPTOP- UNSECURED ON NETWORK

You didn't specify what router you are using and what type of connection. I assume you are using wireless connection from your laptop. What you need to do is setup security on your router. I can't give you any specifics because I don't know the model of your router. Please read documentation and try to go to wireless security on your router and setup 64-bit WEP then specify 10-digit code. Save your configuration. Try to connect your laptop to the network. If it prompts specify the same WEP security then enter the same 10-digit code. It should work.

Good luck!
