Question about Zoom (5590-00-03) Wireless Router (G66115)
I have a zoom adsl x6 router/modem and an hp laptop. On my laptop, I can see my wireless connection with full 5 bars, but it will not connect. My husband's laptop works just fine with it and always automatically connects to the wireless when turned on. Mine has actually worked a few times, but seems to be very random. I have tried changing the default channel several times, have also upgraded the firmware to the 5.4 version, have done a reset of router, have tried over and over to get computer to repair connection. The message I usually get is that the computer can't connect to the wireless. Also, it works just fine in other places; at work, when I turn my laptop on, it automatically connects to the wireless there. So there's some setting issue between my home wireless and this laptop. Oh, and I have it set at WEP-64 bit encryption with a network key and set at mixed long profile. I've spent hours upon hours trying to figure this out and am ready to chuck the laptop out the window. Please help!!
Try going into device manager, and uninstalling your wireless network adapter.
Reboot your PC. It will automatically reinstall your wireless network card.
Now try your wireless connection. This often solves random wireless issues.

Try giving your wireless card a manual IP address. Open network connections (under Start menu or control panel), right click your wireless card, then choose properties. Highlight 'internet protocol' and choose properties then select 'use the following IP address' fill in the details as below

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your
wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before
Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead.
Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).
Click here if you cannot access the web-based configuration.
Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen.
Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key.
Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption.
The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key).
Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings.
