Unplug and unload the freezer section. a panel in the back of the freezer should come out. behind it is the evaperator coil. if it covered with ice, thaw it out with a hair dryer. check the fan near the evap. coil to see if it turns freely. after drying out compartment, plug back in and see if fan works. if all looks fine, look for a florescent looking light bulb in the compartment.have it checked and replace if needed

We have a Whirlpool with the freezer on top. The freezer is around 5 degrees, but the refrig. won't go below 47 even at the coldest setting. We vacuumed all of the vents and tubes in the lower front

The fan in the freezer may have stopped working. Or it could be the defrost drain tube is stopped up. Remove the rear plate in the freezer to expose the fan motor. With the rear cover off You can see if the freezer box has frozen over the drain. If so unplug refrigerator use a hair dryer to melt the ice. Keep heating the drain area until water runs down through the drain. Fan motors are available by model number on line or at local appliance stores.

Water is coming down thur the 2 vents in the refrig, and the freezer has ice on the floor.

The defrost drain line in the freezer has frozen closed with ice.
Defrost the drain hole with hot water or a hair dryer.
Turn the refrigerator OFF before doing this.

Sounds like a defrost failure.
Look on the back wall of the freezer from the inside.
If it is covered in ice your defrost system has failed.
Also check the fan motor in the freezer.
If it is not running it must be replaced.

The refirgerator is not cooling

Their are a few things you can check before calling a dude out. make sure your condenser coils are clean on bottom of refrig. Hair dust and cobwebs can constrict airflow in those coils. Look ffor frost on the back wall of the freezer, a sign the defrost heater has blown. Remove the rear access panel of the freezer and inspect for ice, use a hair dryer to melt the ice and check the defrost components. MORE

Sheet of ice forms on bottom of freezer

Your defrost heater assembly has probably failed. Look at the ends of the heater for darkness like that of a bad neon bulb. Replace the heater assembly as a unit after removing the ice with a hair dryer. Becareful not to drop the glass heaters when replacing.

change the adaptive defrost board located in the upper right corner of refrig under the panel. remove panel by pulling on panel towards you from the finger holes in the rear. remove two 1/4 inch screws and two phillips screws. defrost manually with hair dryer behind panel in freezer.

GE side by side Refrig. with evaporator iced up solid.

Yes ill be glad to help John. Your refrigerant level is fine. Remove the motherboard axcess panel on rear of refrig. Locate 3 wire blue plastic connector on bottom of board. Wires are labeled Comp, Line, Def. Jump Line to Def and see if heater gets hot. If nothing happens than replace the heater. Let me know what happens.

Ge Profile refrigerator

Yes your refrig is not defrosting automatically. You can start by removing the shelves in the freezer than removing the rear panel (the panel that is frosted half way). Use hair dryer to defrost ice from coil. This will restore your refrig temporarily. Your refrig has a pretty advance defrost system and is not easy to test. If you have a meter (volt-ohmmeter) i can help with diagnosis.
