Question about Computers & Internet

My Mac Pro just gets a black screen each time I turn it on. The most it has lasted is 5 minutes and the same problem occurs. It has been just about over a year and unfortunely I dont have an extended warranty for it. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks

If the screen goes black after 5 minutes that usually indicates an issue with the display inverter.

I wouldn't recommend you trying to fix it yourself since working on Macs isn't easy for non-techs.

I'd recommend you finding a local mac tech on craigslist or Yelp.

Total cost should run around $40-60 depending on your tech.

Hope this info helps ;)

Mac book pro. Black screen cannot start but with boot sound

Have you tried connecting an external monitor.

A boot chime means the Mac has passed POST, that the screen remains black initially suggests there is a problem getting image to screen which could mean a bad cable to the LCD or the LCD display its self is having problems.

By connecting to an external display you verify the graphics on the logic board is functional, and it could get you up and running till the display problem is fixed.

Also try powering up and when you hear the chime, hold down the COMMAND+OPTION+P+R keys, and keep holding them till the machine has chimed 3 times, this will reset the 'BIOS' in case there is a glitch there stopping the display from showing up.

Is it plugged in? Is the battery functioning? Try holding down the keys command/option/p/r while turning the power on to your mac. Let it reset a couple of times. You will know it is resseting by hearing the apple chimb several times.

Have a macbook pro and it has locked up, black screen now and isn't responding to mouse or keyboard

This has also happened to my Macbook Pro - nothing would work, so i basically pressed the power button until it closed down and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. The problem ( touch wood) did not come back again yet. Good luck!

(1) If you have connected windows cpu to monitor then when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode then go to control panel ->display property -=>settings change screen resolution to 1024*768.
then check .
(2)But if you are not able to see any display on screen then open cpu cabinet and refix ram memory pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes ,if there is any pci card or vga card installed on motherboard reattach it into motherboard. Then check.
If you have mac book then follow my second solution.

Twist the Macbook body while turning it on. If that make the image come back, you have a broken logic board. There are Mac Repair Guides that show how to open a Macbook. Watch out for the ribbon cables, those tear easily. Replacement parts are usually available on Ebay. There are third party services that can do it for you, like Mac Repair NYC.

Macbook Pro goes from gray apple screen to black

Try booting into single user mode by pressing Command+S while booting. You should then be at a prompt. Type in:
fsck -f
and press Return. Let it run and see if it corrects any filesystem issues, then reboot when it's done.

Black screen after 5 minutes of use with Fujitsu PDS-420 plasma

Sorry to inform you my freind, but the main board has to be replaced in this beast. Could get expensive. there are no schematics and or componets listed to repair this module. Its a board level repair only. Try going to ptscorp.com, find their phone number, and see if they repair these boards. if not you will need to contact the manufacturer for replacement boards. good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.,
