Hello,

All the drivers required to run this type of drive have been pre-installed in windows since windows XP. Unless you have an older version of windows it shouldn't need any drivers. If you do reply back with your version of windows and I will check if drivers are available.

you should try plugging this drive into a second computer to see if the other computer can use it. If it can there may be an issue. First, try using a different USB port on the original computer. Some USB hubs have more amperage than others and often the more easily accessible ones in the front are splitting power to card readers. Try a set in the back or if you're using a laptop try a port by itself rather than one next to another if possible.

You should also double check the cables that came with this drive, some in the series need two usb ports instead of one. If your cable has two USB connectors, be sure both are connected.

If none of these steps works then the cable or enclosure may have failed. Your next step will depend on what's on the drive and how old it is. If there's nothing important on it and it's still under warranty, contact samsung through www.samsunghdd.com and send it away for warranty repair/replacement.

If there are important files on it and you're off warranty or willing to void the warranty, take the drive to your local PC shop. Ask the technicians there to disassemble the Samsung enclosure and test the drive inside, if the drive still works they can sell you a new enclosure and put your drive in it. If the drive test fails you will need the help of a data recovery facility to retrieve files from the failed hard drive. If this is the case, reply here with your location (Country, State, City) and first name and I will recommend a nearby facility that can assist you further.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

My hddr640e04xr is not detected

You don't need to have a driver for your external HDD to work.

You have three possible problems:

1. USB port (software problem) - outdated USB driver or with bugs

Try updating them via the device manager. Or you can try uinstalling it then scan for hardware changes. It will automatically reinstall.

2. USB port (hardware problem) - try a different USB port.

3. HDD defective - You may want to try connecting it to a different computer. If it doesn't work in a different computer then it should be defective.

I have problem in asus A8V-vm motherboard in that hard disk is not detected in BIOS but Win-XP is working properly and when I tries to install new windows XP it shows an error that hard disk cannot be...

Asus A8V-VM Motherboard coming with SATA RAID option, thats why you could not see the detected HDD in system BIOS. But you can see the the detected HDD in RAID BIOS. You can enter to RAID BIOS that will pop up after system BIOS. If you are using old version of WinXP it will not detect the RAID controller of you motherboard. Thats why you cannot able to install WinXP. While you booting from WinXP CD press F6 key when the WinXP installer prompted for third party driver. Copy the RAID driver provider in driver CD to a Floppy Disk (INF file) and insert it, hit enter to continue the installation. If you are using WinXP Service pack 2 or higher you do not need this step it will automatically detect the HDD.

My computer shows to setup array and does not detect one hard disk

Please try to system reformat/reinstall OS to your HDD under SATA connection. then kindly check the jumper setting of HDD under IDE connection which I suggest to place it at Master while the SATA HDD will be automatically recognized as Slave by your computer. best regards

Samsung sata hard disk detection problem while windows setup

Hi, Typically, Windows XP installer does not provide full support for SATA HDs (drives) nor for all kinds of SATA Controllers (on the motherboard or add-on card). However, Windows XP installer provided a way out by prompting the user to press F6 and load the necessary drivers in the FDD. The diskette containing the drivers may either come from: manufacturer of motherboard; manufacturer of controller; or manufacturer of HD. If none was provided nor available, then perhaps you can DIY (do-it-yourself). More often than not, it is inside the MB installer/driver CD in D:\Drivers\SATA or something like that and copy to a floppy diskette. Alternately, you can download from the manufacturer's website, decompress and copy to FD. When the Windows XP installation CD puts out the message "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver", press "F6" as instructed. Thereafter, press "S" to specify additional device on the next pop up screen. Insert the driver floppy disk in and press enter to continue. If the floppy disk is made successfully, the installation program will ask for selecting driver. Please then select "Motherboard chipset (VIA, Intel etc Serial ATA RAID Controller(Windows XP)".) After the SATA driver loaded, Windows XP will now recognize the SATA HDD, proceed and continue to install Windows XP. If you do not have a FDD, one of your option is to DIY a slipstream WinXP installer CD. This is better explained in this article . Hope this be of some idea/help. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need fur4ther information. Good luck and kind regards.
