It depends on the hardness of the water used in the brewer. Personally reverse osmosis water is the only good water to use in a brewer. If your brewer is a dcc-1200 the water that you pour in is used at the time of brewing and isn't stored and heated, waiting to be used like restaurant brewers. Vinegar is ok if you flush a couple of pots after you are done cleaning. It is more to get the residual taste of vinegar out of the first new brewed pot of coffee. If you have more than 10 grains of hardness you may consider frequent vinegar usage or a specialized acid for tank and element cleanup. Just be sure that when you are done that you have sufficiently flushed the brewer. On a 1200 series it will probably only take two or three pots of water to flush any residual taste or smell out of the brewer. Donot try this with a holding tank brewer like a Bunnomatic unless you have test strips or flush with water about thirty times. I did a test on a Bunn with test strips and it took about thirty pots to return the water to a normal level on an acid alkali test strip. A good heavy duty product is called limeaway. Just follow directions and flush completely. I am sending a pic of a brewer with a holding tank. If you look down inside you will see slabs of pure lime scale. Vinegar won't touch this. We use hydrochloric acid and a hammer to remove this. Have fun, Rick in Indy. 23 to 50 dp i use vinegar to - 76a3856.jpggrains per gallon here.

HOW DO I CLEAN THIS COFFEE POT

I suggest you use vinegar acid.

You need a solution with half part water and half part vinegar acid.

1) pour 4 cups of water into your coffee machines water tank.

2) pour 4 cups of vinegar acid into your coffee machines water tank.

3) turn on your coffee machine to decalc.

4) refill tank with clean cold water and let it run through ( 2 times)

REMEMBER !!! ALWAYS POUR ACID into WATER !!!! AND NOT THE OPPOSITE !!!
If you pour water into acid it can explode and make terrible damages and cause chemical burns!!!

Hope this will help ypu

Need to clean cuisinart 12 cup coffee on demand coffe pot. How do I clean?

Do you have the DCC-2000?

To delime a multi-cup coffee maker, mix white vinegar with water (1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water) and fill the water reservoir completely. Then turn the coffee maker on. Wait until the unit completes the "brewing" cycle and beeps 5 times. Turn off the coffee maker. Discard the liquid after the cycle. Then fill the reservoir with clean water and turn on again. When this cycle completes, again discard the liquid. Repeat the water rinse if you notice an odd taste to the coffee afterwards. (If the coffee maker still has deposits, repeat the vinegar cleaning cycle and rinse cycles.) There are commercial deliming products, mix them with water following the package directions.

The manual for the DCC-2000 is available as a link here: http://www.cuisinart.com/products/coffee_bar/dcc-2000.html . The direct link to the manual is http://www.cuisinart.com/share/pdf/manuals/dcc-2000.pdf .

I hope this helps.

There have been a lot of complaints about these. Have you tried the vinegar trick? Probably wont work. If it is not coming on, it is a power problem maybe with the control module. Do you have a warranty left?

What can I use to clean my Mr. Coffee 12-cup coffee maker?

The standard way to clean a coffeemaker is t run white vinegar through it then run straight water through it. That is one of the few things that will clean without leaving a residue. Good luck.

I put in 12 cups of water and only 4 cups come out with coffee what is wrong with this. It is only one month old

This occurs occasionally if the unit needs cleaning or you are brewing a new pot of coffee immediately after emptying a hot pot of coffee.
Run a cup of vinegar through the coffee maker twice, run at least 2 pots of clean water through to rinse the vinegar out.
This should clear the problem until it needs cleaning. The suggested frequency of cleaning is every 30 pots, but this varies depending upon the type of water you use.

Make sure that when you do the vinegar solution, you do at least 4 cups of white vinegar, and fill it up the rest of the way (max fill line) with water. The manual says to "fill to capacity with a mixture of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water," which lots of people misunderstand, and think it means "1/3 CUP vinegar and 2/3 CUP water," which is not the case. It means 1/3 of your 12 cups (and 1/3 times 12 is 4 cups) of vinegar, and 2/3 of your 12 cups (aka, fill it up the rest of the way) of water.

You might have to let it soak for an hour before you try to brew it--this lets the vinegar work at the calcium buildup a LOT better (kind of like soaking your pots and pans before you try to clean them), but it should definitely work for you. If not, call Cuisinart's tech support (1 800 726 0190) and they might be able to get you a replacement :)

My coffee maker works very slowly after about three weeks of use. Specifically, the water does not pass through the filter and into the pot quickly, if at all. Suggestions?

Try cleaning it with white vinegar. Put in one cup with a potful of water, and let it soak. To get more cleaning, pour the water/vinegar through again, hot. Put in a coffee filter to catch/strain the debris, and you will be able to see if it's helping. When you're through cleaning, pass fresh water through the machine by potfuls, until no traces of vinegar can be detected.

Funny tasting coffee

Vinegar/water cleaning is a good idea, but it won't necessarilly solve funny-tasting coffee. First, replace your charcoal water filter - you can get the Cuisinart brand-name replacements at Lowe's, Bed/Bath/Beyond, or Williams-Sonoma in most areas.

To do the vinegar/water cleaning, just pour 1/3 caraffe distilled white vinegar and 2/3 caraffe water into the water reservoir and brew it like it was regular coffee - I would simply bypass the self-clean function if your Cuisinart has one. Repeat up to 3 times, using a fresh batch of vinegar each time.
(if you have the caraffe-less DCC-2000, then just pour in 4 cups vinegar and 6 cups water).

Then run a full cycle of water. Then run a combo of 12 tsp lemon juice and 12 cups water (or 10 tsp and 10 cups water) to improve the taste.

On your next batch of coffee, use bottled water just to rule out any possibility that your local water supply may be contributing to funny-tasting coffee.

Now your coffee should be tasting fine again.
