Light comes on when cooking. Turntable also works - turns around. No unusual sounds - it is not louder or quieter. But food does not heat at all - remains 'cold'.

LIght and turntable come on while cooking. No unusual noise - neither louder nor quieter - sounds same as normal. Food does not heat at all - remains same temperature as put in.

Do the inside light and turntable come on when you try to cook?

Is it making any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

Do you have the model number?

With these symptoms I would suspect a bad magnetron or a loose connection at the FA terminal of the magnetron.

I would suggest you contact Danby customer service o locate their nearest authorized servicer.

Try unplugging it for a few seconds or turning off the circut breaker to it. This usually resets the unit.

Was it just the exhaust fan that came on? If so this is normal when cooking on the stove for long period of time without the fan running. The heat builds up under the microwave and eventually activates the fan.

MICROWAVE NOT HEATING

Most likely you have a magnetron problem. Easy to replace (DYI) but make sure the high voltage capacitor is fully discharged first against the case.

Ge jvm1540dm2ww over the range unit: have a gas range and the fan on the above mounted microwave once in awhile turns on automatically while something is cooking on the range below it....

The heat sensor in the electronics panel senses the rise in heat from the stove below. Once the amount of heat reaches a certain level, the cooling fan turns on to keep the electronics inside the microwave cooled.

I wouldn't worry about it. mine does the same thing.

Our Danby DMW162-ORT doesn't heat up food. The digital numbers, inside light, clock and turning tray are all working. The fan is working but no heat. It's also making a whining/grinding sound that wasn't...

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food. The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing. There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.
