Yes this could be the carb that needs adjusting, but it could also be the governor or both the carb and the governor. You could try adjusting the low speed mixture screw by turning it counterclockwise 1/8 of a turn at a time 3 or 4 times and see if it helps, (remember where it is so you can return it to this position if this does not work) or try it clockwise 3 or 4 times. That is about all I can suggest for now. Adjusting the governor is too hard to try to explain to you. I hope this helps a bit. Best regards and good luck.

Excess air or not enough air. Replace air filter. Spray outside of carb to clean & ensure choke movement is smooth. Water in gas may cause this also. Flush out tank, refill with fresh gas, always use Stabile.

Lawnmower engine idling to low

First, follow your throttle cable down to the carb. Locate the clamp that holds the housing in place and loosen it just enough to move the cable. Start the mower and adjust the idle by the screw that touches the same plate that your cable hooks to. Then push the throttle control to idle and retighten the cable clamp.

Lawn mower will not stay cranked unless you keep pouring gas into

common problems to all older lawnmower, lots of dirt and dust the mower goes through and ages. I would first start by taking the carb apart and clean the filter with soap and water, allow it to air dry. also carburetor prob need rebuilding or replacing. Pick up some Carburetor cleaner at any auto part store and spay it down the carb, dont be afraid to spray allot in there and let it dry for 1/2 and hours. carb tend wear and parts need replacing just like any engines. 99% of the time lawn mower carb goes out before the engine will and common problems with all lawn mower. If you not mechanical incline or dont want to rebuilt it, just buy the whole new carb and replace it, fairly cheap easy to replace and will last you another 10 + years or more. www.briggsandstratton.com

Briggs & Stratton Quattro lawn mower engine. Runs rich and unevenly. Suspect carb and have used sprey carb cleaner. Any suggestions??

A lot of time when the small motors on these push mowers surge it is a governing spring that is weak or broke. It does not hold enough tension and causes the valve to fluctuate. I have fixed this many time for a relatively cheap amount (under $5).
