Just dial *228 to get the programming line. It says that because when you went to go get the phone activated the person overlooked that detail

"initial programming needed" problem

I can not guarantee this Punksk8er but, i did the same thing with my phone by switching the battery with my mother's and I ended up with the initial programming needed sign. This is how i fixed it...

Go to...
>Menu
Select the option...
>Settings
Scroll down to...
>Phone Settings
Then Select the option...
>NAM selections
There you will see the options
>NAM1 &NAM2

Mine was on NAM2 and i switched it to NAM1.
The system restarted and the error "initial Programing needed" went away.

I am no phone expert or anything so I don't really understand how it works but i hope this helps you out dude.
