Question about Dell Latitude D510 Notebook

2 Answers

My Latitude D510 has started running very slowly. Every time I switch on, the machine loads a programme called 924PLC32, which is taking up around 4gb of memory. I suspect it is slowing the machine down. Add/Remove Programmes gives me a message saying I cannot remove this programme, but when I cancel that message, rather strangely the programme is apparently removed - only to reappear next time I switch on. Any ideas?

The 924PLC32 file/program may be a Symantec/Norton system restore in progress.
During a system restore, system performance would be enormously degraded due to the
consumption of large amounts of CPU time, and disk I/O needed during the restore.
Why Norton would decide to restore your system at every boot - check with Symantec support.
Or check your Symantec documentation (if you have any - Comcast customers just get software).

(WinXP) To access normal Windows restore:
START > control panel > system > system restore

(WinXP) Full Windows System restore features at:
START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

These Windows restore software access points are worth checking, but Norton may have
(probably does have) its own system restore functionality independent of MSWindows.

A system caught in a restore loop like this will be unable to be upgraded (service packs or otherwise) since the next restore will wipe out any changes made before the restore.

To exit a restore loop like this, run msconfig & remove the offending restore.
HOW (WinXP): START > RUN > msconfig > Startup

More importantly, find out if Norton is trying to protect your system against something that it's finding every time your PC boots. Do this by (possibly repeatedly) deep scanning for viruses & malware. On badly infected systems, I've had to do this over half a dozen times, just to remove enough of the viral load so that I could access a Symantec web site, or upgrade the anti-virus database.

My indesit WI153uk wont stop when I set it to any of the programmes, I have to switch the machine to release the door. Also when I put it on spin, it spins but slowly and does not seem able to pick up...

When the machine starts to act erratically like that, i certainly would suspect the board. The operation of all the components are given instruction directly from the micro processor. If the motor continues to run, the instruction is at fault. Very possibly the Thyristor that controlls the speed of the motor could be defective. If you are fortunate to have some electronic expert repair it, you certainly will be in the same ball park as buying a new board with much less running around.

MY DELL LATITUDE D510 LAPTOP CANNOT BE SWITCHED ON...WHEN I PRESS THE ON BUTTON, THE GREEN LED JUST STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 4 SECONDS THEN WENT DEAD.

that sounds like a hardware fault. pull out the ram, hdd and dvd drive. Then clean the connetions and plug them back in one at a time, starting with the ram.
The computer will not load with the ram uninstalled, but when you reconnect it, it will make sure that it is plugged in correctly.

Washing machine keeps taking water in even after programme has stopped

poss moisture on your control module causing tracking . unplug your machine from the mains and take the back panel off, you can try blowdrying the module down in the bottom left hand corner or you can take it off (noting where all the leads go to),get an old toothbrush and clean the solered side around the bottom of the board failing that you will most probably have to change it
