Question about Samsung LN52A650A LCD TV

1 Answer

Volume started to go up and down and TV would randomly go from the HDMI input to searching for cable channels on its own. Some time it shuts off and remote will not function. I replaced the caps in the power supply but it still does the same things, Sometimes it works just fine. Its a LN52A650 model 2 yrs old.

    It turns off just as if you had pushed the power button on the remote.

  • hiwatt893 Jan 02, 2011

    It turns off normal. No blinking. Sometimes it will just reset like you turned it off then right back on. The latest thing was TV operating normal then just whent into the auto set up for cable channels and kept scrolling between SDR and HDC. Picture and audio in the background were fine. When its in these crazy modes and you press a button on the remote control you can hear that it is trying to accept the comand but wont. It's like the CPU is stuck in a loop. If you wait it out it will return to normal.

    Performed update and TV worked fine for about 3 hours. I cycled the power during that time and all appeared normal. Then It started acting up again going from HDMI input to scanning cable channel inputs. While this is going on the remote control has function.

    Performed update and TV worked fine for about 3 hours. I cycled the power several times to make sure it would continue to operate normal. Shortly after this it started to act up again this time it went from the HDMI input to scanning for cable channels. While this is going on the remote control has NO function.

    That was one of the first things I tried. Can I order that direct from Samsung or do I have to go to a repair shop and get it from them.

When it shuts off, does the LED at the front blink or is it the audio and video that goes out but the set stays on? Please provide this info so that we can continue with the diagnosis.

    Ok. And what is the status of the LED at the front? Does it blink? If the self test diagnoisis, is able to locate the source of the problem, it will blink a certain number of times in between each pause.

    I would suggest that you try a firmware update. Here download this file and extract all files. Put the files(including all those in the folder called image) into the root of the USB drive, meaning they should not be in any folder but on the USB drive itself. Insert the USB drive into the service USB port on the tv and it should begin the update. Follow onscreen instructions to complete it and see if that resolves the problem.

    Did you try removing the batteries from the remote and covering the IR sensor at the front with insulation tape? That should eliminate the possibility of the IR sensor receiving stray signals . If it happens even after that the we have to replace the main audio/video board. The problem is with the tv Micro IC that is located on that board and the board has to be replaced to resolve it. Should run you about 100-150$

    You can get it from an online partstore . I can find it for you if you can just get me the part number off the board. It is the large board at the center, usually covered by a metal plate.

I have started setup for hd cable. Am connected to hdmi and have picture and sound but am unable to change channels. What do I need to do.

With the HDTV set for an HDMI Input that matches the HDMI Jack that you've connected to the cable HD STB (set-top-box or "converter"), use the cable STB remote to change channels on the STB - not the TV.

You can not change channels of the STB with your TV remote. You may however, be able to program your STB remote to operate your TV. Most will allow you to power the TV on / off; volume up / down / mute; change input (HDMI1 / HDMI2 / ANT / Composite / etc.) and even some of the more complex functions as well. Contact your cable company for more details.

My green light comes on but no picture

Sounds like tv is on wrong input. Be sure HDMI wire or cable input is connected to tv. Look at which input it is on. ( like HDMI 1. Or cable etc. take tv remote (with cable box on ) press input / video button and arrow down to different inputs ( slowly ) until the right input is detected or simply go to the right input you noticed the cable was connected to. Different inputs are there for different sources of connections like DVD. Games. Etc. each work like its own tv channel. Good luck.most times this happens when you are watching tv and press the TV. channel button which will take you to a different tv mode

My buttonson my tv arec all volume and my channel is stuck on a setting and i cant get any channels.will a vcr fix the problem? will it put my tv back to hdmi?

If using cable you may be able to route signal to rear audio and video inputs--doubt a vcr will help.

disconnect power from set and or a box if used--wait several minutes and power up again--HDMI can cause issues and does not like connections being made if units are on.

Hi, i was trying to turn down the volume on my tv (its an insignia) and i accidentally hit the channel button and i think it messed up the programming of my tv to my cable box. what should i do?

try setting the tv to channel 3 or 4. if that does not work, try finding a "input" or "source" or video" button on the remote and cycle thru them, this should get you back up and running. remember to have the cable box turned on during this so youll see when it comes back on.

Brand new TV, spotty HDMI functionality (sometimes recognizes cable box or comupter, but not always). Attempted firmware update on a Sharp Aquos LC-32SH7E (European model). Don't think it ever...

Did you go through the entire factory reset? When you plugged in the power cord did you continue to hold the volume - and input button until the television powered on and a K appeared on the screen never releasing at all?

Force the tv on by holding down channel down and volume + on the tv while plugging the tv in. See if the tv still lights up and if you get audio.

The HDMI doesn't work properly

HI

The resolution is only set by the sending unit, in your case the cable box. You need to change this to at least 720P something the your TV can handle.

Now once you have down this, to try and solve your HDMI problem I suggest you do the following.

Switch-off your cable box and the TV set, unhook the HDMI cable.

Now reinsert it carefully to make sure it connects properly on both sides.

Now first switch on your TV and set the input to Video 6 ( your HDMI channel )

Now wait for 30 secs. Switching on your cable box.

Do not press anything and check if your picture now stays on without shut-down.

if the menu and other startup screens on the cable box is not flickering, but the normal picture you might have a HDMI conflict with your TV set.

O, you cannot change the input types.

Hope this helps!

I have a 19" phillips lcd tv and when i turn the tv on the phillips screen comes up but when it is going the show the channel it shut off by itself how can i fix this problem?

Hello. I may be able to assist you. If you are using a direct cable connection from the wall outlet;
  • Check the incoming cable or antenna signal connection to ensure that it is properly secured to the TV's antenna input.
  • If the connection is good, perform the automatic installation again to search for all available channels.
If you are using a coaxial connection from the Cable or Satellite box to the TV;
  • Set the TV to the channel specified by the service provider.
  • Change the channels at the Cable or Satellite box to view the program.
If you are using a video connection (CVBS, S-Video, YPbPr, HDMI) from the source (DVD, Cable or Satellite box) to the TV;
  • You do not need to perform automatic installation to search for the channels.
  • Press the 'SOURCE' 071218044349_22024.gif button on the remote control repeatedly to select the correct input source.
If you are using an HDMI connection from the source (DVD, Cable or Satellite box) to the TV;
  1. Reset the TV and source by unplugging it from the power outlet for 30 seconds.
  2. Turn on the TV and press the play button on your source device. If the source is HDMI CEC compliant, the TV will automatically switch to the HDMI input.
  3. If your source is not HDMI CEC compliant, turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI input.
  4. Turn on your source.
If you are sure you have selected the correct input or channel but still have no picture or sound;
  • Try resetting the TV by unplugging it from the power outlet for 30 seconds.
  • Press the 'SOURCE' 071218044349_22024.gif button to select the correct input source.
  • Check the connection cables.
  • Try the connected source with another TV.
  • Connect a different source on the same connection of your TV.

Can't get HD channels selected on tv. Tried auto search with HDTV port connected and the menu selected to HDTV

Hello, the HDTV input is what you would use if you were not using a cable box.
You should connect your cable from the wall to coaxial input on the cable box, and connect an hdmi cable from the hdmi output on the cable box to the hdmi 1 input on your tv and then switch the tv to that input.

Try resetting the TV by holding down the "up" button on the remote (with the TV powered on) and then, while you hold down the up button on the remote, hit the power button on the TV. This should do a "factory reset" which will wipe all settings in the TV. There is no reason why the TV should not "remember the last input it was on when it was ;last turned off. Also be sure that the TV is not plugged into a switched AC outlet, like the outlet on the back of the cable bix. The TV should be plugged into an output that receives power at all times.
