Hi, yes, the laser can be adjusted, by using a ohm: meter, You can check to see if they read good ,but try cleaning the laser first with a laser cleaner.

if you have this problem with all disks.
Then i,d suggest a laser-head cleaning disk.
Also ensure that the disks are scratch-free, especially on the centre and outer edges ( Underside )
If these options fail, you have a weak or faulty laser-unit.

I had the same problem with mine. it would play the ps2 games just fine but when i put a DVD in, it would click and keep saying reading disc.. i took it apart and gently cleaned the lense with a qtip and now it works fine
