Question about Onkyo DV-CP704 DVD Player

1 Answer

My Onkyo DV-CP704 will not play any DVD's but will play CD'S. I have always used it to play music but now would like to use it both ways. I have had this unit for 3 years but have used it very little. What is my problem and can this be fixed without spending a lot of money?

I used the disc cleaner but it didn't help. Should I bring it in and have the lazer cleaned or do you think it needs to be replaced? I found a shop who will charge $20.00 to look at it and would deduct this from the repair cost. I can purchase a new DV-CP706 for $199.00 free shipping and no tax. Which option makes my sense? Please let me know.

My Onkyo DV-CP704 randomly stop playing, and switching DVD's

I recently had a similar problem with my Onkyo DV-CP706...the "DVD mechanism" part was bad. I sent the unit to the ABL Electronics in Michigan and they fixed it. They are an authorized Onkyo repair center. If you're still under warranty they'll fix it for free. My unit was not, but I opted to fix it rather than purchase a new one. They will clean your unit, inspect it for other potential problems, and it will come back to you better than it was when it was new from the store.

My ONKYO DVD player has totally hanged up.It turned on and started searching the dvd, BAD DISC or NO DISC appears on the DVD player screen.. All the buttons became jammed and didn't work. How to solve my...

I had a similar problem with Onkyo DV-CP706--it would play CD's but wouldn't play or recognize DVD's. Looking at other people with Onkyo problems, it looks like this is the most common part to fail on their DVD players. I had mine fixed by an authorized Onkyo repair center, ABL Electronics, located in Michigan. They said a part called "DVD Mechanism" was bad. They replaced that part, cleaned the machine and ran diagnostic checks for other problems, then sent it back to me. It now works perfectly and makes less noise than it did when it was new. If your Onkyo unit is still under the limited warranty, they will fix it for you for free. Mine wasn't, so it ended up costing just a little less than buying a new machine, but I feel like it was worth it. You never know what you'll get with a new machine, especially if you buy online.

My Onkyo DVD/CD Player CP704 plays CD's with no problem, but DVD's are a problem: I get "loading" but does not play and I get "no disc" on many occasions. What gives, any solutions? Thank you.

Laser Beam could be dirty, use disc cleaner or clean the eye beam on the laser pickup but the Laser ickup could also be bad, Mats has them

UNPLAYABLE MP3

Windows media or Itunes can rip a CD for you and convert them into MP3 files. Then you can put in a blank CD in the computer and copy the MP3 files into the CD and burn them that way.

It requires to put the CD into a data format to burn them rather than a music CD format.

Shuts off after a loud sound

Hmmm...not sure but sounds like the vibration from the loud sound is causing the disk to jump. Not sure why that would power it off, but I think your thought to junk it sounds reasonable.
