Remove any external memory card if present and switch on with a new sim card.Then freeup 5mb of phone memory.If not solved you need to update your firmware

Remove any memory card and sim card.
Check that the back cover is fitted correctly and that the camera shutter is closed.
Try to boot with N900 not connected to charger and see how far it gets.
