Question about Water Pik Shower Head

2 Answers

I've attached the shower head as tightly as I can but water backs up and sprays upward and outward with very little coming out as spray. Seems that a washer is needed but note came with my "eco-head" shower showerhead.

There should bea rubber gasket/washer that goes between threads on shower arm and inside of shower head. If this is a new shower head I would return it to place of purchace for exchange. If not you should be able to get the waher seperatly. If not you can get a cheap shower head and use the gasket from it. I also would recommend that you use several wraps of teflon pipe joint tape on shower arm and tighten snugly.I hop this helps you. Thank you a have a good year

The shower arm should be screwed into an elbow inside the wall. Unscrew the shower arm by putting your pipe wrench on the arm and unscrewing in a counter clockwise direction ( lefty loosey, righty tighty ) . Measure the length of the arm going inside the wall and make sure your replacement has enough length to reach. Teflon tape the inside end ( the end going in the wall ) and wrap a rag around the new arm, then screw into the elbow going clock wise , stopping when it starts getting tight and with the bend facing downward. Install shower head.

On this particular faucet you may not be able to reach the part that might be giving you issues in the spray head. However, to take the head apart, on the spray face you will turn it counter clockwise, the aerator will come out at that point and you should be able to see down into the tube to see if there are any obstructions. Also if you are using the little Grohe water filter that goes into the handle before attaching the hose, it is possible that that is clogged especially after 3 years. You should be able to remove that altogether, or contact Grohe for a replacement. If once you have removed all of these and have found no removable obstructions, then the only other thing to do is contact Grohe for a replacement spray head which I believe they are still available. Hope that helps.

Hi, just bought a sink spray head, put it on and water is coming out the base of sprayer, what did I do wrong?

If it's from the fitting where the sprayer head is attached to the hose check to see if there is a rubber washer. If the leak is not from the lack of a washer or damaged washer. Uninstall and take back for a replacement. There is nothing wrong with what you did. It should not be leaking.

My Hans Grohe rain shower head is having a lighter spray recently. Is there a way to improve the spray force and/or clean it? Thanks, Therese Terschuren

Rain head showers are a nice thought, but they come with a bundle of problems. This is common one, though, so fear not.

As long as your regular shower head isn't losing pressure (I'm assuming that you have at least two heads instead of just one rain head) I would recommend carefully removing the head with an adjustable wrench and letting it soak in CLR (calcium lime rust) for at least an hour. Often times minerals in water will build up in the small holes on a shower head and greatly reduce efficiency.

Remember to apply teflon tape to the threads before carefully retightening the shower head to avoid spraying water from the wrong end!

Leak where Grohe shower head attached to the threaded pipe

Hello, Many shower heads have similar problems. (Very frustrating as you now know) The problem is the threads at the end of the (cheap plastic) shower neck are not flat. They are tapered (has an edge) - so it does not seat flush with the base of the shower head. Actually cuts around the rubber washer causing a leak.

What to do about it?

File the end of the neck some to create a flat surface. However, go slow. Be sure you can still screw on the shower head. Add a flat rubber washer in the shower head and plumbers tape on neck threads too.

Or Purchase a new shower neck that has a better design. The neck should unscrew from the front. Check and make sure you have an access behind the shower just in case you need to access the plumbing.

I replace the shower neck myself if there is an access.

Slow and nonexistent water flow.

Start by removing the spray head from the hose. Pull the spray head out and with a channel lock pliers unthread connection between the spray head and hose. BE CAREFUL not to let the hose fall back down into the faucet. With the hose directed down toward the sink test for volume by turning on the faucet. If you get a nice volume the problem is in the spray head. This is usually the case. Put the spray head back on then remove the aerator. It's the screen where the water comes out of the spray head. Clean out the assembly ( 3-4 parts). Reassemble and test.

Good luck, Phil
