Problem with the Mitsubishi WS-55511 Rear Projection Television, A couple days ago we lost power and the green light of death began, I swapped out the 7 capacitors that every where I read told me to, now the green light is gone, and the tv turns on but there is no picture and the three bulbs are very dim, any ideas how to fix?

OK just did that and it did not respond at all, I unplugged for a few seconds, replugged and hit the device/input button,it just continued to blink for while I was hold the device/input button, it never stopped rapidly blinking and after the 40 seconds it stopped and I could then turn on the TV but no picture just the dim three lamps, as I said they are so dim you can not see anything on the screen just a dull light

Hey just a though, When I swapped out the 1000micro fared 16volt capacitors I used 1000 micro 35volt instead I read on one of these formums to do that is this a correct step?

Problem with the Mitsubishi WS-55511 55 in. Rear Projection Television, I was getting the blinking green light of death that I have read so much about, I replaced the (7)1000micro 16volt capacitors with (7) 1000micro 35volt capacitors. Now, when I turn on the TV the green light blinks for forty seconds stops and I can turn the tv on but have no picture or sound and after four minutes it shuts off,

The 3 CRT's are powered by the flyback / high tension / horizontal transformer. The tubes are dim because the voltages that are supposed to power them are missing (or are very small). The voltages are missing because either the high tension module is faulty or the syncro signal (the one that commands the module) is missing because the signal processor is faulty.
In either case the the absence of the return signal of the flyback would cause the malfunction of the entire tv.
Since the status light blinks it means that the power source is in protected mode because a short has been detected. A failed processor would not cause a short big enough to trigger this mode so there's a fault in the high tension / horizontal module. You will have to open the tv and test its components, starting with the power transistor.

By no picture, do you mean you have sound? If yes then this is a problem with loss of high voltage. Did you test the Horizontal output transistor?

Ok. Unplug the tv and re-plug it. As soon as you do that press and hold the DEVICE/INPUT and MENU buttons for 5 seconds . The timer LED will flash an x number of times, followed by a short pause and another y number of times. Please count the number of blinks, before and after the pause and let me know.

Hmmm..It looks like the issue is more complicated than I though. We will have to perform a more comprehensive diagnosis. Do you have a multimeter and the service manual for this set? I can give you the service manual if you do not have it but you are gonna need a multimeter.

Ok. Click on the link below to download the service manual. Don't worry about the wrong model number. Its the same chassis and is covered.

See page 4 of the schematic for the PCB power circuit. The red lines mark the test points. The voltages are also given along with the pin numbers of the ICs and what voltage should be there at each pin. Test all voltages along the red lines starting with the 2 STR ICs to se if any of them read abnormal values.

    Sai.

Whats next? Testing the circuits, I have mentioned in my previous post :)

No that is not recommended at all. The voltage rating must be exactly the same. Only the temperature rating can be different.
