Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

I have an HP dv6000 laptop running XP. The display works fine in "Safe Mode". But, in normal mode, the display goes dark right after the WinXP splash screen comes up. If I go ahead and log in, I hear the Windows startup tune. I'm guessing it might be a driver issue, because my laptop went into VGA mode right before the trouble began. I was re-booting to fix that problem.

Just tried it. It did the trick. Thank you!

It worked. The drivers on the link were incompatible with my adapter, but I found a copy of the drivers on my hard disk.

    thanks!

This is happening when you mess around with the video driver's setting s..and put it in a mode that it is not supported or enable the secondary display and disable the one in use..
The actual fix is simple...get into safe mode by pressing F8 probably ..and choose from the list safe mode..
In this stage ..get on the control panel and remove the video driver using add remove software ..
after that insert the disk with the drivers ..or if you do not have the disk ..download the video driver from this location ..and run it again into computer..
The new installation will have the default settings and the computer will boot normally after that in windows..
Here is the driver you have to download ..(try to find a way to download it first and after that proceed...cause in safe mode you may not have access to the internet ..you may try and if you have ..than it will not be a problem ..Anyway ..after you remove the video driver it will already boot using the windows driver for video ..

Try connecting any Desktop Monitor to the VGA Port of the Notebook, power it on and press the FN and F4 key to get the display on the Desktop Monitor.
If this works and you get the display on the Desktop Monitor, the issue is with the LCD Display of the Notebook.

The screen goes very dark within a minute after booting up = I can just barely see the menu page

When you say screen goes very dark when it booted to windows so it means that when you turned on the laptop when the dell logo flashes the screen was fine? if thats the case could you please try this. after turning on the laptop you will see the dell logo flashes immediately keep tapping on F2 and then it will show you the BIOS setup utility, please check if in BIOS setup display goes dark as well. If yes then try this, after turning on the computer when dell logo flashes keep tapping on F12 to boot menu then select utility partition to run the diagnostics. Please run test on the LCD check if display goes black when running the LCD test. Then try this when you sees the dell logo keep tapping on F8 to boot in safe mode check if in safe mode display goes very dark. Try this too, boot in F8 then select last known good configuration check if the settings on your display will be fix. If you can boot to safe mode no problem then uninstall the display or video driver. then restart computer.
You can also try to connect an external monitor if you have one just try to isolate if issue is on the LCD or the video card. If the display is dark as well in external monitor then video card needs to be reseated if fails then replaced. In situation like this most video cards is integrated to the motherboards. So replace motherboard.

HOW DO I TAKE MY HP PAVILION DV6000 OFF OF SAFE MODE. BECAUSE THE PC CUT OFF CAUSE OF LOW BATTERY. I JUST WANT PC TO BE BACK IN REGULAR MODE NOT SAFE MODE

You should just have to shut it down in safe mode and reboot. And it should come up in normal mode. You can try hitting F8 when you turn it on until you get the boot menu and then select boot in normal mode.
If it keep wanting to go into safe mode it may need to reboto a few times to clear out something before it behaves but it should boot into normal mode on its own.

Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop..the screen goes almost black after 5 minutes.

The screen goes black while in normal mode right? So try to boot in safe mode (power on then keep tapping F8 then select safe mode). Check if still happens in safe mode.

If screen does not goes black in safe mode it means there might be a software or driver causes problem when running in normal mode. You can try the following (update your anti virus software then run a full system scan, uninstall the video driver then download and install the latest one, uninstall any previous windows update or you can system restore to the time when it was working fine).

If the screen goes black even in safe mode they try connecting the laptop to an external monitor if still goes black, if yes then absolutely no issues with the LCD panel. You can try (uninstall and reinstall the video driver if still persist then this might end up replacing video card or motherboard, but before doing that update the BIOS first).

If does not goes black in ext monitor then the LCD panel might causes the problem. Reseat the LCD cable or inverter if you can.

Black Screen Dell 600 Laptop

Hi,
The display drivers maybe corrupt.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Dell support website.

If it still won't display in normal mode please post back.

Good luck.

External monitor

This does not appear to be a display issue but more of a failure of explorer to load. Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del so it brings up task manager. Click file then go to new task and type Explorer and see if all of your icons and such show up. If they do you will want to install a spyware remover such as spybot search and destroy from safer-networking to check for any spyware that is preventing explorer from running. Also check your event viewer in safe mode and see if there are any errors when you boot.
