The pop noise that you have mentioned is caused by the buffer boards of the set, taking out the sustain board of the tv. It is usually the y-sus that is fried but it can also be the x-sus. The first thing to do would be to replace both of the Y-buffers and the y-sus board. Should run you about 150$.

These are boards that are located inside your tv. They are the boards that generate the high voltage required for the PDP(Plasma screen) to come on. From the looks of it seems like you have not worked on electronic PCBs before hence I do not recommend that you handle high voltage electronics as it can lead to grievous injury if not handled carefully.

HCT TV Model HPP-42HCB Direct TV Remote code needed.

If code not found look to see if this remote has a search mode where every possible code it has can be tried one at a time---it may just not have the code and in that case you are out of luck.

No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Lamp life is only a few thousand hours. Hopefully its only the lamp that made to noise. Don't turn on again until lamp is replaced.

Sony Bravia XBR-2 32-inch LCD with popping noise problem

Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds? yes & it is common problem. And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers? not at all. The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV. they are right that your problem is not due to tv. it is due to cable box/service? yes but not defective it reqires to change the way you have connected tv to cable.please call tech to get it connected in such a way so that you do not get popping sound when you you put off cable box.
