The pop noise that you have mentioned is caused by the buffer boards of the set, taking out the sustain board of the tv. It is usually the y-sus that is fried but it can also be the x-sus. The first thing to do would be to replace both of the Y-buffers and the y-sus board. Should run you about 150$.
