Question about Samsung Syncmaster 2033SW Monitor

1 Answer

Syncmaster 2033sw. Screen went blank while gaming. Did the flashlight test and can see icons for computer. I read an answer on here saying that if I didn't know how to take the back cover off, not to. Unfortunately I don't have the money after the holidays to take to a professional. If it's a bulb issue, which are cheap, I would like to fix myself. How do I take the back cover off?

The fact that you could see icons with the flashlight would mean that the digital part of your monitor is still working. The part that has failed is the backlight circuit. It could mean a bulb or components on the backlight power supply board has failed. Often the capacitors fail and the caps blow. Other parts that go bad are the transistors. To repair you would unsolder the bad parts and replace them.

The monitor case is held together with plastic fingers that lock the bezel to the back case. Removed any screws from the back of the case. Then to open the back of the monitor, you will need a thin tool like a putty knife. You start at one corner and insert the knife into the seam between the bezel and the back. You slide the knife down the seam to seperate the two halves. This video should help you to understand how to do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q6_TgNJvQw.

After you have opened the monitor, examine the power supply board and look for any parts that look blown or burned. An company that sells replacement capacitors for your monitor is http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/ The kits they sell are reasonably priced under $20 including shipping. Hope this helps you.

Sean, I can't believe you havn't been to YOUTUBE to see video clips of "lcd monitor repair" and "lcd monitor disassembly"!!!! You must have very good "eyesight"!!! You have just performed the "flashlight test" without the aid of a flashlight!!! See the icons=SMPS in partial shutdown mode!!! No see icons=SMPS in full shutdown!!! Ask us tech's more questions here on fixya only after you do web research at fixya and have seen videos at YOUTUBE. Do reply after you find out what WE already know! You might even be able to refurbish unit for less than $8 in new capacitors on the SMPS board. 12fixlouie

My battery backup failed. I plugged my computer and SyncMaster 932B monitor into a power bar. The computer is on and working, my monitor is not. If I turn it off and then on again I will see my screen...

chb3113, You will need to do the Flashlight test when monitor goes to black screen! Tell me what you see or don't see by holding a bright flashlight 1 inch from sscreen where you know something should be!!! If you see the icons or win-start button then switch-mode-supply is in partial shutdown mode. See nothing, then SMPS in full shutdown mode. Sounds like failed capacitors on SMPS printed circuit board or problem with the cold cathode fluorescent lamp electronic ballast circuit which lights-up your lamps. If not willing to do the research and the repair work, then just trade-in for new unit. Do some reading in my and other CCFL back-lit lcd monitor tech's fixya profiles to see if DIY will work for you. Follow links you find there. "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" (me) are just some of the files you should read and also visit YOUTUBE for repair video clips of other owners who repair their units for less than $10 in parts. Goes to black after one second

lcjj, Is unit black and blank screen? or just black screen? do flashlight test after pc boots-up. Can you see images and icons on desktop screen with aid of flashlight?? How old is the unit? Is unit out of warranty? Have you been to YOUTUBE to check-out DIY video clips on troubleshooting and the low cost DIY repairs being done to CCFL back-lit lcd monitors? Your monitor's problem not new one!! Try some of these web sites: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and www.lcdrepair.us/files/dell_1800fp_power_supply_installation_instructions.pdf and www.badcaps.net and www.lcdparts.net and www.ccfldirect.com and after you finish with that you can start reading the fixya PROFILES of "buddymc" , "budmrtn" , "12fixlouie" In short... you will do one of these four things. 1. DIY refurbishment. 2. Contract out refurbishment work. 3. Trade in unit for new. 4. Do a cash+old swap out with Samsung if they are doing a "just out of warranty" swap for "premature failed" units. Do your test and research first. Then make decision on what to do. Good luck. 12fixlouie

Hp w2207h screen in blank but flashlight shows icons are

The power supply-inverter board is probably at fault. Remove the back cover and locate the standard ac power cord connector. The board that the power input connector is soldered to is your power supply - inverter board. Check the electrolytic capacitors on the board. They probably went bad. A visual inspection is usually enough to find out which ones are bad. They will be either bulging or cracked at the top and leaking fluid. I usually replace all of the capacitors that have the same rating whether they look bad or not. Will save you another repair later. If the caps don't look bad, you can take the board to your local tv repair shop and have the caps checked with a esr tester. It's more accurate and they can be tested with the caps in place. Hope this helps.

Blinking blue light

You have to check if you can see the image on the screen or not after it went blank (Power on both CPU and monitor) by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. Like mine, I can see window image using flashlight and check lamps inside. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so.
Thank you
