Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

This has been brought up before. I have a Yamaha AV receiver RX-620. When I turn it on, it turns it self off within a second or two. It doesn't make any difference if it has speakers hooked to it or not. Larry

One of the main output transistors is shorted and that is why the unit is going into shutdown. And you are looking at around 150 on repairs.

RX-V665 turns on for a second then turns off

don`t open it yet

check ur speaker wires, try disconnect all wires from back of unit and then try to turn on unit .
if it stays on whit no wires attached than u have short connection at speaker wires .
if doesn`t come on then try to fasten screws at back of the unit ,
may sound like BS but if amp board don`t have good ground connection it can go in protection mode happened to me on RX-V592

sounds like you need to take it in to have it looked at. no simple fix unless you are an appliance technician. hard to walk a beginner through. i suggest calling an stereo repair guy.

Yamaha rx-v456 av receiver, shut down with optica cable

Does it work without PS3 attached?
When receiver turns off, it is usually due to badly connected/configured speakers. Try powering on the receiver without speakers.

Yamaha RX V2400 keeps shutting off

When it shuts off, does it display anything on the front like "ck speakers" you could have a shorted wire or bad speaker. Sounds more likely than a bad receiver. Yamaha is pretty bulletproof in "self preservation" circuitry! about the only thing that takes them out is lightning and major power surges. I have been selling and installing Yamaha receivers since 1995 and have only ever seen one with a problem that was unrelated to power. and I've done hundreds. If your not using HDMI, and the Video portion of the receiver, I would definately keep the unit $ 1500.00 is no cheap receiver. Try disconnecting the speakers, then turn on the unit with a source connected like cable/sat/fios on then crank the vol and let it set, if it cuts out, yes you've got a problem internally, however, I would stronly suggest metering all of the speakers and wires for shorts. There is an internal fuse as well right near the power cord, you have to pop the top to get to it, If you have a multimeter check the fuse with resistance tone. If you get tone, you have a good fuse if not If you need to replace it. They can be found at Radio Shack etc. If the fuse is OK, chances are you've got bad transistor(s) and needs to go to service. Repair should be under 200, well worth it. If you have further questions, post a comment and I will get back to you ASAP. Hope this helps

Yamaha RX-V995 receiver turns on & then powers off 2 seconds late

I suggest you run self diag.  press [FM/AM] key + [Input mode] key and press the [power/standby] switch.

ps prt = power supply problem
dc prt = shorted output or leakly cap in channel
tmp prt means to hot on heatsink

you'll likely have to measure the resistances of the output FETs to find a short,
