Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Door opener will not engage as mechanism moves along the chain track

The motor works ok, but it seems as if something is not engaging as the mechanism runs along the chain track when I press the house mounted key pad. Nothing happens when I use the in-car opener.
Your help would be appreciated.

Make sure the rope hanging down has not been pulled. If it has the door has been disengaged from the opener. You can correct this by flipping the metal part up (that the rope is connectd to) toward the drive track. Then open or close the door using the remote. The track should grab the door again.

This is the exact same problem I'm having, and I've flipped the rope mechanism up. I had pulled it down to open and close the door manually. But now I am ready to re-engage it. The Black mechanism will run down toward to front of the garage door when the door is closed,.. but with the rope up,.... it's still not engaged. The steel thread attached to the chain is outside of the mechanism. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I fix it?

My son disengaged the latch while the door was open. Then he manually closed then opened the door. When I got home the door was half open and not latched. the trolley on the track was approx 3ft away

If the track is a screw thread, then just latch the door anywhere along the track, and it will realign itself.
If the track is a chain-drive... then push door up until it clicks into latch.

All garage door openers have a quick release. Have you checked to make sure that is locked in place? Most have a cord hangin from it and you pull it which releases it from the chain. Make sure that is engaged and it should work.

I had to manually close my craftsman garage door and now it won't respond via the remote or the wall button. Chains move but not engaging with door.

Look for a red handle with a rope attached along the bar from the main unit to the door. Pull this handle and release until it engages the track again.

Liftmaster 125OLM will not open, even manually. The motor seems to be working. The chain goes around and it seems to engage, but then the door barely goes up (1 inch, maybe) 1/2 to 1 inch off the floor. ...

If you can't move the door manually with the lift disengaged, it is most likely the counterbalance spring has failed or slipped. Other problems would be stiction in the tracks or a stuck lock that should be disabled for a lift.

It moves up a few in. then stops. Then you push the button again it closes hard aginst the floor. I disconneted the dr andf it still dose the same thing.

The opener has lost track of what is open and closed. This MIGHT be due to damaged gears, but first get a manual and do the initial setup work.

You could disconnect the motor and manually move the carriage back to where is should be, then engage the motor again.

If this is a chain drive, the chain may have slipped cogs until it thinks the door is up when it is only inches up.

Garage door opener stopped working I replaced batteries in the remote the door bell button starts the motor but the chain does not engage Does work manually

Perhaps you pulled the emergency release cord to release the drive mechanism from the chain up on the track. Push the cam lever back up to reengage the drive follower to the chain. BJ.

Loosen the chain enough that you can remove it from the pulley on top of the motor unit. Now with the door closed run the motor until the pulley turns in the clockwise direction and stops. Put the chain back on the pulley and tighten. You may have to tweak the up and down limits now.

Door will not slide automatically; emits loud beeping noise

Something similar to that was happening with our Odyssey...the beeping when you are driving whether it's ongoing or intermittent is the "safety alarm" letting you know the door is not closed. The power lock is not engaging. What I do when I get the beeping while driving is hit the Door Close button. It causes the door to attempt to engage again. To fix it...we first cleaned out the space below the side running board (kids were hiding crayons and things in there), then looked for any obstructions along the top and bottom tracks. I sprayed a lubricant along the tracks (I'd suggest the dry lube kind...I used WD40 the 1st time and had streaks of it dripping down after driving), use a lube that has a long straw to spray in small places...and spray up into the track that runs the length of the middle of the car. Manually open and shut it a few times to get the tracks lubed, then try it out.
If you press the open OR close button by remote or in the car and get nothing...no movement/no noises/no beeping...then it could be the electrical circuit itself, the signal itself may be impeded...or the motor shot. Have you tried any of these suggestions before?
