Is there a diagnostic chart either on the reverse side of the blower door or in your owners manual. It may help you to narrow down what is going wrong.

Operate the furnace with the access door off of the furnace and the blower door switch taped on. Watch the furnace and document what happens. Note if the flame starts but goes out in a few seconds and let me know what you experienced.

SOURCE: CAUTION LIGHT only -- no Fan or Heat

According to the manual, the "Caution Light" means that the unit has overheated. They suggest running on a lesser setting, but you also may want to see if you can return the unit (if it is still under warranty).

SOURCE: Lasko 5610 red caution light, no power

In the bottom of th e 5610 there are 2 automatic reset breakers. In betwene the two there is wire connecting them together. In the middle of this wire is a thermal resister and thats what repaired mine. Replace it and your heater will heat again.

since it's old and dust soaked, i'd replace it with one from walmart at about 30 bones.
it's safer to not try to revive it cause it's old and stressed out and has had juice running through it's poor, old wires for way too long.
i wouldn't take the chance on repairing it.  those are just the types of details you don't hear when someone burns to death via a faulty space heater.

Underneath the heater element are two thermostats that are run in series with each other. Inside the wire that connects them is a thermal fuse that opened up. Replacing the fuse corrected the problem.

Shut off power, disconnect thermostat wires from control board. Put a jumper wire between R and W turn power back on. If the garage heater starts and heats, your issue is in the thermostat. If it does not start or heat, your problem is in the power coming.

Check power coming in, it should be 110-120V if you have it there, check to see if it has a transformer, if it does check for 24v on the secondary side of transformer, if you don't have it there, replace transformer.

The heat will not turn on

If the fan is blowing with no heat, it is an indication you have an error code. Check the control board for a blinking light. If you find one, look on the wiring diagram that is pasted on the reverse side of one of the panels for a diagnostic chart. It will give you a starting point where to look for the issue. You can always jump the red and white wires on the thermostat and if the furnace starts, it's a bad thermostat. If not, look to the blinking light.

The pilot light has to be lit before gas valve will operate. That's a safety feature so the valve won't open and fill the garage with gas and possibly cause an explosion or fire. If you have a standing pilot and can't get pilot to stay lit, it's usually the thermocouple and it will need to be replaced. Once the pilot is lit, the gas valve comes on and heats the combustion chamber up to approx. 100° to 125° a thermostat controlled fan switch will close and bring the blower on.

I had the same set and problem. I had a RC wire which is the power to the AC. But didn't have an RH wire which is the power for the heat. To fix this just use the jumper wire and insert it in with the RC wire and hook it up to the RH. Fixed my problem.

You are right, it could be a thermostat or a heater problem. You should check that the heater element receive power. In case it receive power, the heater element should be replaced. In case it doesn't receive power, the problem is with the thermostat. In any case, check as well that all wires connected to the thermostat and the heater are in place. Good luck.
