Start switch clicked, went dead. little puff of smoke came out of the back of the unit, at the same height as the on/off switch. I pulled the 220 plug immediately. Is this a fuse problem? (oh please)

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

No, by the smoke you saw, you dont have a fuse issue. you must have had a relay or switch burn out. and something in the unit caused the problem.

could be a bad heat coil.

Engine gives off a little puff of smoke on startup

What size motor? Older engines will start to have valve guide wear and this can cause a small amount of oil to seep into the cylinder after the engine shuts off. This will cause a small puff of smoke on start-up. If the smoke clears up immediately, there is really no major problem. Be advised that on the GM motors, it is the back two cylinders on the v-6 and v-8 engines that this usually occurs. As the condition worsens with age, the oil can cause plug fouling resulting is misfiring. Changing or cleaning the affected plugs will remedy the issue for a while.

Smoke...screen blinking

The circuit board or display board is burned out. There is nothing you can do, take it to a Brother repair shop. Ask for an estimate, it might be expensive.

It might still be under warranty... Look at you bill of sale and check your warranty regarding electronic parts.

Probably going to cost more than a new one is worth, and then you have still got a "Fixed" unit & in my experience once things start to fail there often is a domino effect. Still if you can get a free "Quote" for a fix, get one and see?

If I try to drag something into the dock it disappears...

Drag the file you are trying to put into the dock to the right of the silver line at the right of the dock. The file you want to delete, let it disappear in the 'puff of smoke' and then go into Macintosh HD and find the file and drag it over the trash icon. I hope it works!

Thanks, Logan

Put US-made 120 V Toshiba into 240 V electric current. It blew.

Did the smoke come from the computer or the power supply. Most of the power supply boxes for notebooks are multi voltage and can auto switch from 110 to 220. If the smoke came from the power supply box it may not have damaged the computer. If it came from the system, the power stage of the motherboard cooked and it will need replaced. If it is an older laptop it will probably not be worth fixing as it may cost more than half of the cost or a new one. I would try using a different power supply to test it and see if it comes on. If not, you may be looking at getting your data transferred to a new computer.
Best of luck
