Question about Lexmark X2500 All-In-One Printer
Posted by Anonymous on
What OS is on the new computer? The drivers and software for supported OS versions are here: http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=EN&page=product&userlocale=EN_US&productCode=LEXMARK_X2500&focusedTab=DOWNLOADS#1 . Make sure to select the 64-bit version if you have a 64-bit OS.
Install the software before connecting the data cable to the computer. If you forgot this step, uninstall the generic driver (from the OS) and then remove the USB cable. Restart the computer and install the full software from the above link.
The next issue to check is try a new USB cable. Try a different USB port (or a direct connection if you are using a print server or USB hub). Make sure that the USB ports are working by trying a known working device. (Ports can be disabled for power savings (see the Advanced Settings from the Screen Saver) or security (check the Device Manager).
I hope this helps.
(for Windows 7 the Device Manager is accessed by: Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager. the power settings > click on the desktop and select Personalize > Screen Saver > Change Power Settings > Change Plan Settings. Other Windows versions are similar but may have slight differences in the titles/locations)

The Lexmark X2500 all-in-one multifunction printer, discontinued as of May 2011, will not install on Windows Vista or Windows 7 using the installation disc. The installation disc predates the newer editions of the Windows operating system and so you will run into difficulty when trying to install the printer. Lexmark has released up to date drivers on their website. Once you have downloaded the drivers, you can install the printer and begin using the device.
Go to the Lexmark X2500 Support and Downloads page (see Resources).
Click "Drivers and Downloads."
Click the link for either the "64 bit" or the "32 bit" drivers, depending on the version of Windows you are using.
Double-click the file once it has downloaded. Click "Next" throughout the driver setup. Connect and switch on the Lexmark X2500 printer when prompted by the installer. Click "Restart" at the end to restart your computer.
