Re: sound on the computer
Click Start > Run > type devmgmt.msc > click OK > if you see that you have Sound device, check if it's working properly. If it isn't uninstall it from device manager and then restart computer. hopefully windows will recignize the hardware and reinstall the drivers for you automatically.

Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the data cable on the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard disk controller. If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.
To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

So we have two problems one your sound is not working and two your usb drive is not detecting any connected devices, correct?
Starting with the sound simply use a friends computer to burn the audio driver onto a cd. Next install the driver on your machine.
Problem two the usb. Remove the flash drive and try plugging in any other usb device such as a printer or camer or cell phone and see if windows says found new hardware. You don't need to install it this will simply tell you if your usb port is functioning or has a problem. if you do get a found new hardware message then your usb port is functioning and may only have a problem seeing your flash drive. Try uninstalling the usb port in System Properties. Right click on My Computer then left click on Properties. Now click on the Hardware tab. Now click on Device manager. Now go to the bottom where the usb devices are and uninstall all usb devices and when your done restart the machine. See if you can use your flash drive now. Other wise check your bios settings for the usb devices to see that they are infact set correctly and if you cant do this take it to your local pc repair shop and they can do this for you.

I would suggest that you cancel the device installation, download the drivers for various components (Sound, Chipset, Network etc.) from the HP website. Install those drivers and restart. Check if that new device found message comes again and let me know.

Basically ya must go control panel ... Device Manager .....select ya sound adapter and "Remove hardware/Driver" when asked if ya want to completely remove .... say YES & finish..
Then restart ya PC, and windows will/should detect ya hardware/sound-card and ask for the "Drivers" point it to the "Drivers" either on CD or files on Hard Drive...
IF windows doesn't "Detect" & "Just Work", Well then ya sound-card has probably faulted.. ya could try another PCI slot... to be sure... but it looks like at this stage ya drive is borked.
