-- pics lost / no longer showing on camera

Hi. I had a bunch of pics on my camera and now that I go to view them, it says 'no images'. I took out the scandisk/chip and put back in, but still they do not show up. how can I retrieve my pics? they were all showing a couple of days ago.

thank you. I'll try the recovery links. I do have a memory card and that's where they have been stored but now for some reason, sony said I need to format it - which erases any pics that may have still existed. I will try the recovery pic software. thanx again

If you don't already have one get a memory card reader that will read Sony's memory sticks, then install one of these many apps that will assist you in recovering that data.

First do not panic! It is possible to recover your pictures if you take care. Take the card from the camera (powered off) and if it has a "write protect" tab then lock it now. Do not try and write anything to the card or you risk causing more problems.

If you are comfortable with using a PC then you can download a FREE utility that will recover your photos from the following link:

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

If you need something a little more "user friendly" then you will need to buy the software. If you search the web for photo recovery software you will find many.
One I have used successfully is RescuePro that used to be bundled with some Sandisk products. Now you can get it from the link below:

http://www.lc-tech.com/software/prwindetail.html.

You can try the demo to see what you can recover before buying.

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to the card until you can recover your pictures to your PC safely!

Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

So i took a bunch of pictures with my camera but when i try to play them back, some of them just show up with a question mark and "Image cannot be displayed". I can't open those specific pics on

It sounds like the images are corrupted.

Try using another card and seeing if it operates properly. If so it is a bad card, if not then the camera has a circuit problem (bad card holder, bad image circuit, etc.)

Try to retrieve the files from the memory into your computer, if you can't see the pictures after they are moved, they might have been corrupted while you were using the camera.
In theory, you might have placed the camera near a strong magnetic field, like a speaker. This could explain the files being corrupted if that's the problem you have.

Unable to upload the pics. while trying to copy, the message says, all the pics are stored in hidden files. what to do?

Hi, you unhide the hidden files in the Computer. Please open the folder containing images of the Digital Camera and click on Tools>Folder Options> View tab> Show Hidden files, folders and Drives option. This will show the hidden files in the Memory Card of the Digital Camera.

Getting Pictures Off My Camera and Onto My Computer

It sound like you have a problem with your memory card.
But I would try buying a card reader as well. Whether it turns out to be the card or not.
there are alot things that can go wrong when trying to use your camera to transfer the images instead of a card reader. a card reader shouldn't cost you more than 20 dollars.
It will also make transferring your images faster.
in the camera when you hit the review button do the images show up on the lcd screen of the camera?

Hope that works,
Caleb
