Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

Whirlpool dishwasher model DUB700XB has quit cycling. Fills with water but will not start wash cycle. Making intermittent humming noise unless the door is open to disengage the switch, even when on stop. No LEDs lighting when rotating the dial through the various cycles. Unit is old and wondering if it's better to buy a new one rather than fix this and have something else go wrong in the not to distant future. Thanks in advance

SOURCE: Dishwasher Does Not Cycle

IA, these GE pumps have a habit of sticking if the unit hasn't been run for a while. First you want to verify that the motor is in fact getting power, this will eliminate the timer. You can use a meter on the quik connect from the motor while in the wash cycle. If the motor is getting power, see if the pump is stuck by turning the motor vanes (Do this with the power off). If it's hard to turn and then frees up than this was more than likley your problem. You remove the bottom toe panel and will be able to check this out without removing the dishwasher. SOURCE: Loud humming noise when dishwasher is filling up with water

your model is pretty new. just so you know your warrenty is 1 year parts and labor. 2 years on parts. it should not cost that much money.

there are two components that start before the circulation pump.(wash noise you hear)

first sounds you hear will be the drain pump. usually rattling noises if something is in it but it can make a hum noise if something is jamming the drain propeller up. which is accessible with a T20 torx driver. take the filters out and the mesh filter. and unscrew the screw in the base towards the left. pull out whatever is lodged.

the other humming sound can come from the next component that activates is the watervalve. make sure you dont have a kinked water intake line. otherwise its a bad valve. i have had to change a few of those water valves out already but not for a hum noise on your model. you have a new style water valve. when brands make new parts we get problems fast sometimes..

SOURCE: Dishwasher making loud humming noise

The most common cause of the hum/grinding sound, and often poor cleaning - is a blocked filter or debris stuck below that filter.
Pretty easy fix: Get a phillips screwdriver near by. Pull out the lower rack (the upper rack can come out if you pull the little gray thingeys on the front of the upper rails.)
Remove the lower spray arm -- just pull it straight up. Remove nine silver screws from the sump area that holds the filter down. Pull the filter up and out. Rinse the filter as best you can.
While the filter removed, with a flash light inspect all over the sump area - looking for stuff that should not be there and clean it out. Watch out for broken glass!
Replace the filter, screws and the spray arm. Fire it up and check your results!
Good Luck!

The wash pump and drain pump are different. So it is likely the wash pump is choked and trips or the motor is faulty.

It is likely the flap valve (item 5) or the chopper (item 6) are damaged and could be replaced before you get to the wash motor.

Dishwasher hums intermitantly and after the wash cycle is completed

Sounds like you have a bearing going out. It could be in the system pump or the rotating washing arms. I would suggest getting ahold of Kitchenaid's customer support and relay when during which cycle the noise occurs and they should be able to identify whats going wrong.

My dishwasher starts fills water and never starts wash cycle?

If you hear a hum when it should be washing, the motor has seized. Replace motor. If it fills with water and stops quite, run it through a test using the tech sheet under the bottom panel to access. These dishwasher have had issues with the motor.
