Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I am very deaf and truly need the closed caption. It worked for about the last year and suddenly stopped working. Please tell me how to get it working again. I don't have enough money to buy a new TV just to get the closed captioning. The CC button comes on, but I don't know what to do next to lock it in. Thank you. Carolyn Dean

I am very disabled and am unable to get to the back of the TV to get the additional information for you. I will have to wait until my son gets home so that he can get the info. Is that all right with you?

I do know it is a Magnavox Smart Series.

Yes, it would be fine to wait untill you got model and brand info.
Model and brand info are very important to check related technical documents of tv for troubleshooting.

OK, it is 20 inch CRT tv.
Press CC Button on remote and select CC1, CC2 option to view close caption in picture.
If you select CC Mute option then you need to press Mute button on remote to turn On close caption.
and if problem still not solved then it is internal problem in tv as close caption requires Sync signal that would be missing for some reason and local tv repair shop will check hardware of tv for missing signal.
Let me know if you have additional question.

By the numbers! How do I turn on the closed

there is no closed captions on dvds, you can use subtitles, very similar to closed captions. just load dvd
look into either extra features or subtitles

it would say "english for deaf/hard of hearing." or just plain english subtitle. either way, it works.

either with the original remote or the menu button go into the customer menu until you find the Closed caption section---you will find that TEXT has been selected(this will give you a black box in the middle of the screen) either move it to CC1 if you want closed captioning or to off or CC2.

If this helps you I would appreciate a vote from you here. if you need more help reply to this post and I will try to help.

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.

Closed captioning

I am sorry you don't. You will need the original remote. I have enclosed a link where you can see the original remote and order one if you want to. If you see the picture, there is a caption button on the remote to turn on and off the closed captions Good Luck. Here is the link
