Question about eMachines E620-5885 Notebook PC

Emachines D620 laptop - hanging - strange problem. This is my daughter's laptop. It's a budget 1gb ram / vista laptop with an AMD single core processor. She was complaining it was hanging unexpectedly, leaving a black screen. I'm reasonable with computers so have had a good look at it. I expected it to be virus / software related, now I don't think it is. It only seems to hang after it's been on a while and after the laptop is moved. For example, I put it on a flat surface and installed and run AVG 2011. It scanned the whole hard disk - no problem - and took just over an hour. As soon as I moved it, it hung. Seems to me to be some sort of physical problem inside the box. Also, when it hangs it often won't re-start (I have to turn it off by holding down the power button, but when it's turned on again it goes straight to the black screen). Could be heat related? It starts ok after leaving for ten mins or so. I've had the panel off the back and looked for anything obvious. I've taken the HDD out and back in, but it still hangs. Any ideas on what to do next? I'm running out of ideas. Thanks in advance. Tony.

Could be right there. Try a cooling ray under the laptop to remove the heat or maybe, clean the exhaust and fan.

Hi
My cousin had a laptop that ran extremely hot.
My solution was to put it up on blocks.
Or you can space two books apart, rest the laptop on them and see if the problem goes away..
Two kids Lincoln logs would be perfect.
Might save you a trip to the repair shop.
Good luck
Joe

Dell latitude d620 wont turn on

Did you upgrade the RAM when you upgraded to Vista. The D620 does not have the resources to run vista as pre-configured and requires, at the least, a memory upgrade. 1gb or greater is recommended.

Please upgrade the ram, or try F8 during boot for Safe-Mode and see if your RAM is not the issue. To check the amount of RAM you have:

Press and Hold Windows Key + PauseBreak

If you still have 256mb or 512mb vista is likely to barely crawl.

Let us know what you find.
