Do HDMI cables just go bad? Would have likely gone bad when I plugged in the XBOX?

  • timothycl804 Jan 02, 2011

What do you mean locked up?

  • timothycl804 Jan 02, 2011

I'm curious why there is no color red on my tv. Is it possible a bulb is blown?

There has been a static spark when you plugged the cable from the Xbox and it has fried something. Simple test to locate the origin of the fault: disconnect the Xbox and everything else from the tv, put a simple antenna in the back and turn on the tv in TV mode - if the image is still wrong then the image processor has failed, if the image is good then something is wrong either in the AV switcher on the tv or with the Xbox.
Another simple test for the tv: plug in the tv another device - a dvd player - with the HDMI (new cable) and then using the Composite connection - if the image is bad in both cases then the AV switcher is defective and the mainboard of the tv has been damaged: you will have to replace it. If the image is bad only in the HDMI then the corresponding channel in the AV switcher has failed and from now on you will be able to use only the analogue connections.
Last simple test: plug the Xbox using the standard AV (analog) cable in another tv - if the image is faulty then the Xbox is effectively dead , it can't be fixed. If the image is good then try to use the HDMI using a different cable - if it's ok then the original cable is dead, it happens.

It sounds like you have a bad HDMI cable.

The viedo processor could be locked up too. Unplug both units from the wall for 40MIN. and it should work.

You should never plug connectors into anything without shutting of the units first. They might just be locked up.

Also the processor might be locked up and if you unplug both units from the wall for 40MIN, it should reset back to normal.

How should I hook up my xbox to the back of the television using the red, white, and yellow wires? It is hooked up but I am not getting any audio. Thank you.

First make sure your video cable is set to TV not HDTV

Then plug the 3 RCA cables into the color coded slots on the TV. Make sure you aren't using the red cable from the component RGB but are using the red cable for sound (next to the white one).

Then, if you still have no picture, start the console using the controllers Xbox button and hold "Y" and "RT" until the console restarts. this will reset the video settings on the 360 to default.

Follow this guide if you get confused:

and for the video reset about halfway down the page:

Hello

White and Red ports are for Left/Right Audio. Yellow is for video. On the TV usually it would be a range of colors from Yellow-Green. Try looking for another port just for the video.

Good luck and please rate my answer.

Hi And Welcome to Fixyah,

Step 1: Install the Pinnacle Dazzle Video Creator Platinum software and make sure it works with the Dazzle DVC 100. Sometimes this is easy, other times, this is a very difficult task.

Step 2: Buy 3 RCA type Y cables. One male end, 2 female ends.

Step 3: Plug the male ends of the RCA y-connectors to the Dazzle DVC 100.

Step 4: Plug the Yellow, Red and White RCA connectors from the XBox 360 to the color matched female RCA y-connectors on the Dazzle DVC 100.

Step 5: Plug a second triple RCA connector into the other end of the color matched RCA Y Connectors.

Step 6: Plug the other end of the triple RCA connector into the TV.

Dont know what color to stick where

X-box can be hooked up to component video. This is for better picture quality. Not all tvs have this option. Most newer tvs do. It uses green, red, blue. Those will give you the video. Then a red and a white give you the audio. Just match up the colors.

What do the plugs on the cable look like? Are they just Yellow, Red, and White... or are there five different colors?

Do you have a high-def television or a regular old one?
