SOURCE: Oreck XL air purifier (Tower Model)

Is this purifier wet at all, or been in any heavy areas of moisture. This purifier is very undependable with moisture. It may just have to dry out. Let me know if this solves your problem or we can explore further options.

Please keep me updated, thanks

SOURCE: After removing and cleaning the

Make sure there isn't a clip at the bottom (back) that may be preventing it from sliding all the way. This clip may be used for holding it in place while it's in, but loose enough for you to remove it when needed. The metal stips should not be what is holding it back, however, look closely on that side on the unit, and see that there is equivalent space. It could be that the grooves and metal just aren't lining up as needed, and because it is such a close fit, you are not able to see that while inserting it back in.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

SOURCE: I cleaned my oreck xl

This is a common problem with the Air Towers. what needs to be replaced is your power supply. If you turn the tower on silence, and you listen very closely to the base of the tower you should hear like a little zapping or buzzing noise. the only way to get it replaced is to take it to an Authorized Oreck dealer and as long as your machine is still under warranty, 5 years from the purchase date, it will be free of charge.
also when ever you wash the cell you want to make sure its completely dry. let it sit out for at least 12 hours. 24 hour is ideal.

Can you add a prefilter to an oreck truman cell to grab the larger dust particles and decrease the zapping?a humidifier in the room helps but when the furnace is going it can still be often.

it should have a prefilter already on it. they have a screen looking filter that goes on the front of the cell. If you don't have one you need to get one. You should also have a charcoal filter on the back side of the cell, if not then you'll need to get one of those also, the charcoal is for odors and not for filtering dust. Putting any other type of filter in front of the cell will just be turning this into a filter type cleaner and will be defeating the purpose of the reusable Trueman cell. You may as well just buy a different cleaner if you don't mind buying new filters instead of cleaning the cell. I would recommend cleaning the cell every 2 weeks to keep it working properly. This will also keep it from snapping, if yours is snapping it's already too dirty and needs to be cleaned, if it's snapping right after it's cleaned then you have a plate that is arcing in the Trueman Cell, I have posted a fix for the ProSheild Models to stop the cell plates from arcing.

Where can I get replacement wires for an oreck truman cell? Seems silly to spend 200 dollars when the only thing wrong is four 29 cent wires does it not?

Here is a link to where you may can find what you need. You will need to have the correct model number (not just XL Tower Air Purifier) , to find your mode.

How often shoule you clean/change the plate? how do you clean it?

You should clean the purification plate once a month. Using a 1 part water and 1 part amonia solution, dip an old toothbrush into the solution and scrub the metal grids on the plate to remove any dirt or deposits on the grids. Remember to do both sides of the plate. After the grids have been scrubbed, rinse with warm tap water and allow it to dry completely or use a hair dryer to speed up the drying time.

It would be a good idea to scrub the metal contacts that touch the plates inside the purifier as well. The plates should be changed if they develop a crack or there is noticeable arcing when the purifier is running. Hope this helps you.

How do I clean the Oreck Air 7

Hi There,

Here's how you can clean the machine, and I have copied the link to the owners manual below for your convenience.

Cleaning
The Cabinet
You can clean the air purifier cabinet with mild, non-abrasive cleanser and a
soft cloth. IMPORTANT: Unplug the unit from its electrical power source.
Do not spray cleansers or furniture polish into the louver or grill areas.

Collector Cell
Indicator light is green under normal operation and flashes red
when the cell requires cleaning. To clean, proceed as follows:
The red "WASH CELL" light will flash or illuminate when it is
time to clean your cell. However, it is recommended that every four to
eight weeks or if snapping sounds become frequent, clean your
electronic air purifier. Your electronic air purifier is still filtering the air
when the red light illuminates. Cleaning your electronic air purifier is a
snap too... and a must for efficient operation.
1. Turn the unit off and unplug it from the electric power source. If wall
mounted, remove unit from wall.
2. Remove front grill by unscrewing the retainer screw under the grill on
the cabinet bottom. (fig. 1)

3. Pull the cell out of the cabinet by using the two small handles on the
front of the cell. (fig. 2)

4. Snap off the charcoal odor absorber from the back of the cell. Change
as necessary for continued odor removal. (fig. 3)
5. Slide off pre-filter. This can be cleaned with the cell and reused. (fig. 4)
NOTE: Handle the electronic cell with care. Damaged metal plates
and/or broken wires will cause the air purifier to malfunction. (Do
not wash charcoal odor absorber; it is disposable.)
Cleaning with Assail-A-Cell® Cell Cleaner:
6. Using Assail-A-Cell® Cleaner, thoroughly saturate the cell and prefilter.
Be sure to spray between each cell plate and cover every
surface. Allow product to soak for a few minutes, not allowing it to dry.
Rinse thoroughly with water. For extremely heavy deposits, repeat the
process.
IMPORTANT: Dry the collection cell thoroughly outside of the
air purifier before reinstalling it into the air purifier. Ensure
that all areas including corners and areas that may trap
water are dry before reinstalling into the air purifier. DO NOT
place a wet or damp collection cell in the air purifiereff1848.jpg

The Honeywell electronic air cleaner constantly "snaps" even though it is clean. I have inspected the wires and fins, clean and spaced properly. Any suggestions?

It is normal to hear occasional snapping from your Electronic Air Cleaner. This occurs when larger particles are caught by the ionizer wires. Continuous snapping is not normal .Remove both the cell and check clean the bottom portion by using a vacuum cleaner attachment. If the snapping continues with the cells remove contact your contractor.

It emits a metallic burning odor.

The trouble began in 2003 when Consumer Reports magazine published a report claiming the expensive air cleaners don't clean air. The magazine later claimed its tests showed that Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze Quadra Silent Air Purifier and four other units also release potentially unhealthy levels of ozone.

F50 air cleaner cells inoperative

Check for any of the metal layers in the cell to be touching or too close together. These units are very expensive to repair and to be honest the best option is to find a disposable box filter that will fill the hole.

Collector cell light always comes on

Hi there,

We purchased one of these in April 2009. Same issue appeared with us. Cleaned the cell and the "clean collector cell" still stayed illuminated. Checked the manual and the trouble shooting section stated to hold down the "air revitalizer button" till the "clean collector cell" light blinks three times. After this operation the light went out and all was fine!!!! Hopes this clears your issue!
